It does seem like Criterion's releases of Scandinavian films in general apart from Bergman aren't much talked about. My Life as a Dog is arguably Lasse Hallstrom's magnum opus! Simply a magnificent film, here's hoping Criterion grows up and releases Gilbert Grape, after which Hallstrom never made films anywhere close to his early mid career masterworks.

My wallet is still weeping from the recent sale but my wishlist continues growing by the day. Just wondering: does Criterion do random sales throughout the year or just the one big one in February?

Criterion.com flash sales are typically in February and September. Barnes and Noble month long 50% off sales in July and November.

Recently watched "Jellyfish Eyes" by Takashi Murakami, not quite sure why it's in Criterion Collection. I know Takashi is a great artist, but the movie???

I'm feeling the same way! The more I've been watching the more I want to watch/purchase. But alas I spent way to much money during the last sale... hopefully I will have paid myself back by the time the next sale approaches. In the mean time there is always filmstruck!

I only recently learned about filmstruck but unfortunately there still doesn't appear to be an app on my TV, or on Xbox One or PS4. Once there is I'm going to subscribe asap.

The second flash sale is usually in October, not September.

Yeah, it's fluctuated from late Sept.-mid Oct. over the years, doesn't really matter though.

I have only heard negative things about this film. One of the few Criterions I have absolutely no interest in ever seeing.

I love Criterion and I love Japanese kitsch, but I agree about Jellyfish Eyes. It just looks awful. So many better options out there to bring to the collection.

As I said I went a little crazy with the February sale but just looking at my haul makes me giddy! I know what I’m doing for the next few weeks after work! https://thomas-stewart.smugmug.com/M...ry/i-gTLNx88/A

Only downer is how long it takes to watch it all. Im only on disc 15 out of 30 something

They are! Here’s what they sent to me:

Hi there,

Thank you for your email, though I'm so sorry to see this damage!

You should absolutely be receiving flawless packages when you order from us. While our warehouse does its best to ensure this, unfortunately not all damages are caught, especially during our very busy Flash Sales. For this reason, to save you the hassle of sending anything back to us, we're always happy to send replacement packaging for anything you receive from us that arrives to you damaged, free of charge.

We'll ship a replacement outer box for your THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Blu-ray as soon as possible, at which point we'll be back in touch to let you know that it's on the way. In the meantime, we've put a $10.00 credit on your criterion.com account for use on a future purchase.

Be back in touch soon, and best,
Kelly
All is forgiven, Criterion. I knew you’d step up for us. Thanks also to everyone here and beyond who’ve complained about their packaging.

I imagine there are some knowledgeable people on this thread that can tell me if there is any chance of seeing Fritz Lang's Indian Epic released on blu ray. Criterion has released quite a few of his films. I would love to see them get the Criterion treatment.

Is it safe to assume that if I receive a blu from CC without the sticker it is a reseal? I’ve noticed that over the last couple of sales I have received several poorly shrink wrapped copies with small tears through the case into the artwork. I’d guess that out of the 20 or so I ordered this time at least half were like this.
