My order of 3 also came in that cheap corrugated envelope. I am glad Criterion took care of your issue, but they used to ship orders out in boxes. I hope these cheap envelopes are not the norm and they go back to the boxes. Premium product, needs premium attention.

Just watched it tonight. A fantastic film! Really one of my favorite Criterions so far. I'm a big fan of coming of age stories to begin with. Watching him try to navigate life with his Mother, Uncle, all the folks in town, having two girls fight over him, worrying about his dog...In a good way it left me wanting more. Very glad I picked this one up!

Got FilmStruck tonight! Looking for suggestions on what to see. I don’t own too many criterion’s so I’m basically using this as a guide on what to buy if I enjoy the film. So any and all suggestions are welcome. I finally got around to watching Au Revoir Les Enfants the other day. I got the bluray for Christmas. Loved it so much. So I’ll be looking into other Louis Malle films!

I'm glad you liked it. It's hard not to root for Ingemar with all that life throws at him. Love the scene
[Show spoiler]when male curiosity gets the better of him at the sculptor's house.

Yes I probably would have just
[Show spoiler] peeked around the corner
but he did get a good story from it

I have to agree, in fact I think it's one of the worst Japanese films in the Criterion Collection. It's disappointing that someone known for poking fun at consumerist shallowness would go on to make a movie that feels like a conformist imitation of mainstream products for kids. The film is just too derivative, a typical anime plot which does attempt to raise above the mold by tapping into social commentary regarding energy production and consumption, but this never lands and what we're left with is basically a live-action Pokémon copy. At least it's not too boring.

If Criterion's Instagram post is any indication, From Here to Eternity might be coming to the collection soon:

I hope not. The existing blu release is excellent and does need the crazy C to make it more perfect.

Yeah, I might have to draw the line at double-dipping on the excellent Sony Blu-ray of From Here to Eternity.

What I want to hear is Criterion releasing the rest of the Val Lewton collection. Thought Cat People would be the start of something.
From Here to Eternity isn't the kind of movie I care about double dipping on when the current release is fine.

All is forgiven, Criterion. I knew you’d step up for us. Thanks also to everyone here and beyond who’ve complained about their packaging.

Love Criterion.

Well, doing the same thing with Dr Strangelove apparently worked out well enough for them...

(I sure didn't buy it)

There's a new entry on this site for Red River, with a 5/29 release date. I wonder if this will simply be a non-dual format edition, or if it will also remove the novel that was included in the original dual format release?

From Here to Eternity already has an immaculate transfer on a flawlessly encoded disc, and it's packaged with a gorgeous slipcover and mini lobby cards. It's a little light on extras but anything else Criterion digs up will probably be insubstantial fluff, maybe worth a one time watch if that.

Save the spine number for something else.

I doubled-up on Dr. Strangelove, Blood Simple, and The Breakfast Club--the latter two I combined into one case, whereas I have the CC and Sony Dr. Strangelove just sitting together on the shelf. Mostly because of all the differing extras--thus I got the best of both editions each.

From Here to Eternity is one of my favorite movies, but to echo others I'm content with my current disc.

Now A Place in the Sun, on the other hand...

Ya, but Criterion's Blood Simple was a new 4k re-master, and Breakfast Club had lots of rare deleted scenes and archival interviews coveted by fans.

The Lewton box set seems to be OOP, so I’m not sure why Warner would mind Criterion doing it. I can practically hear my Lewton DVDs and LaserDiscs rotting on the shelf.
