Well I watched Grand Budapest Hotel recently, so if it gets reissued, you have me to thank.
But while unlikely, I could see Criterion getting into 4K just to release the next two Anderson films.

Wow! It includes a new 4K restoration of Ozu's Floating Weeds (distributed by Janus). My second favorite film . That whole series is amazing. I have to go to some of these.

Ukigusa (Floating Weeds). 1959. Japan. Directed by Yasujiro Ozu. Screenplay by Kogo Noda, Ozu. With Ganjiro Nakamura, Machiko Kyo, Ayako Wakao. In Japanese; English subtitles. 119 min.

Premiering in a glorious new 4K digital restoration, Floating Weeds is, in scholar Donald Richie’s estimation, “the most pictorially beautiful of all of Ozu's pictures.” The film follows an aging kabuki actor who is reunited with a former lover and their illegitimate son, bringing out the bitter jealousy of his current mistress. Restoration premiere.

4K digital restoration courtesy Kadokawa and Janus Films.

Peter Becker was on Elvis Mitchell's The Treatment and he said that they plan, at some point, to issue Tokyo Olympiad on its own.

I’m kinda livid I won’t be in town whatsoever during that series. I’d go every day.

I can see some owners of the Olympics set getting upset if/when Olympiad gets released with extras, like the commentary, and Ichikawa interview that were on the DVD. I would hope Criterion would offer some sort of trade-in/exchange if that were to happen.

A few 35mm Kon Ichikawa and Masahiro Shinoda films, courtesy of Janus Films.

Surprised they've never been released, even on DVD.

I wonder if Janus plans on showcasing the 4K restoration of Ozu's Tokyo Twilight.

Like would it be too soon to ask for a Blu-ray release?! or Ozu boxset!

Every year I keep begging for a SUMMER release for David Lean's SUMMERTIME. Will 2018 finally be the year?

(yeah I am aware of the just released German Blu and the screen shots kill the old U.S. DVD image quality)

The Pianist is a haunting masterpiece, on a level with Chinatown and Rosemary's Baby. I have been petitioning Criterion to give it a domestic release for quite some time, now.

After watching Three Billboards in Ebbing, MO over the weekend Sam Rockwell reminded me of how much I want/need Lawn Dogs on blu-ray. Please, Criterion.

And with The Disaster Artist I can totally see Criterion releasing The Room sometime down the road.

Jesus, it's the 15th once again. . .

After last month, I'm going to predict a light June, and then some kind of big Bergman related set for July.

I know people want a Criterion release (and I would double-dip), but the Japanese BD is very good, and Region A friendly.

I wonder why?

It seems like the public considers The Pianist to be a forgotten gem.

Well of its $111.8 million box office revenue, only $32.5 million (against a $35 million prod. budget) came from the U.S.; And Polanski isn't exactly liked around these parts to begin with.
