I know it will never happen, but I wish for a Milkyway box set that would include those titles (e.g., The Longest Nite, Expect The Unexpected) he "unofficially" directed. At least give us The Mission.

Olivier Assayas Cold Water (1994) has just been added to the front page of Janus' website. Stills, and Press Book are also available to download.

Memories of Underdevelopment and The Other Side of Hope were removed, so I assume the former will be announced soon.

And it's screening at the SFFILM festival in two weeks! I wanna go, but I'm kinda banking on it getting more theatrical showings later...

Bummed I missed out on Cold Water when it screened here (with an Assayas/Linklater Q&A, no less.)

I know he's very popular, but Johnnie To is, for me, one of HK's most uneven filmmakers. Some of his films I REALLY like, some I REALLY hate, and some are pretty OK.

Would like to see Criterion put out something unpretentious like The Heroic Trio or The Barefoot Kid, but it'll likely be something awful like Running on Karma.

He has kept the HK industry alive and relevant after its mass exodus, so kudos to him for that.

Something like "The Mission" would be good. Such a simple plot, but it's perfect. I still want to see "A Hero Never Dies", it's on japan blu, but no subtitles.

The Mission would be fine.

I have a soft spot for his ghost-directed Expect the Unexpected.

A Hero Never Dies not so much.

Throw Down (which I didn't like either) has a new 4K master so it could be that.

Great, now I can't get 99 Red Balloons out of my head.

Fortunately it's an awesome song so...

Got in the car last week after picking up groceries, turned on the radio and 99 Red Baloons was playing. When I realized it was just the beginning, I let out an emphatic "Yes!" Then when it was over, I streamed the German version off YouTube and drove out of my way to ensure I'd hear the end of it before getting home. So, yeah... I'm with you. Awesome song.

At the risk of straying too far off topic, I do like this version of the song

I was thinking this in particular and the sequel.
