Very sad.

He lived a long, good life. And he made a lot of very good films.

I would LOVE a Criterion release of Big Jim McLain (1956). The Duke and James Arness hunt down commies in Hawaii !! What more could you ask ? Oh yeah, it has one of my favorite movie villains of all time, Hans Conried.....

As far as the Duke's films on blu, there are still some other classics that we need, like Donavan's Reef, Sons of Katie Elder and one I would love to see, The Conquer (the German blu is OOP)....

I saw it a few weeks ago. While I don't share your level of enthusiasm (since I thought it dragged in a few spots), I thought it was quite good, with a very interesting structure. The two highlights of the film, the lengthy respective scenes at the workshop and the book presentation, are skillfully made, they're very engaging.

Oh, man, R.I.P. Milos.

And I know what you mean, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of my favorite films, and I mean Top 10... it's the only film that I recall giving me watery eyes more than twice (at least 4 times already); all those final scenes are so powerful, and the final scene is so sad and beautiful at the same time... I can't believe The Simpsons managed to create a funny scene out of that.

[Show spoiler]

And Amadeus, The People vs. Larry Flynt and Man on the Moon are fun films to watch, with the last two I'm always thinking "I can't believe these guys" .

Bye, Milos.

None of these movies really scream Criterion to me. First, two seem more like a possibility for Paramount. I mean don't get me wrong I like to see them on Blu along with The Shootist but Criterion seems like a weird one to release these films. A quick glance also shows me the German Blu isn't OOP:

RIP Milos Forman

One of my most wanted films on Blu-ray was also my introduction to Milos.

Would be great if Criterion could get this from Paramount. One of the best experiences I ever had in a movie theater was watching this on its release. It was stunning, moving, unforgettable. Milos persuaded James Cagney to come out of a 20 year retirement for a pivotal role in the film. It was Cagney's last film.

Ragtime is certainly overdue a release on Blu. Along with Cagney, Ragtime also marked the last screen appearance of character actor Pat O' Brien.

R.I.P. Milos Forman.

Yes, Ragtime is very under-rated. Additionally, Randy Newman’s score is terrific. I would love a Criterion Release of this film.

My monthly hopes and dreams Criterion wishlist:

- Any Kubrick (really want Eyes Wide Shut but Lolita or Clockwork will also make me happy, I'm assuming of course that Warner won't license The Shining because that's what I really really want)

- Carl Theodor Dreyer boxset (was told last month that it wasn't in the forecast but I maintain hope)

- La Strada

- Magnificent Ambersons

- Greed (my most wanted title)

- Annie Hall or Manhattan (both got 4K restorations from MGM)

- Andrie Rublev

- Viridiana

- The Devils (uncensored)

Crossing my fingers.

You know I was also thinking this would be worthy for a Criterion release.

And yes, RIP Milos.
