I've never bothered to see Hannibal. It just never really interested me. The whole idea that Clarice would even consider anything but a professional FBI-Subject relationship with Lector is ridiculous to me.

Haven't been reading the papers much lately, eh?

I just read that Antonioni considers it one of the best films ever......being he's one of my favs, I always like to see what the directors I love are watching.

Does this mean the other John Hughes movies are gonna get a Criterion Collection release? Would sure love to have Pretty In Pink.

Criterion's focus has always been on directors and not writers, so perhaps unlikely they would release Pretty in Pink as Hughes didn't direct it. But I actually quite like that film myself - mostly because of the casting.

I thought he directed it?

He wrote it. Howard Deutch directed it.

Now I want to watch it.

As a fan of Jordowosky, Borowczyk, Zulawski, and Svankmajer , this definitely looks up my alley. I very much enjoy the sensibility of these "lesser known" (less mainstream?) European filmmakers.

Good looking out.

If so they'd better hurry before his filmography gets blacklisted.

(And just to be safe, CC, please release Sixteen Candles first followed by Weird Science. Please and Thank You).

News on the death of producer Philip D'Antoni reminds me that this year is the 40th anniversary of Bullitt, to which the current Warner Bros. disc doesn't do justice enough (especially with its DD 2.0 audio). If Criterion would continue to deal with modern major Hollywood successes, that might be a good choice. And there's Peter Yates connection too.

50th Anniversary actually. Warner Bros. would never let anyone else handle this.

Right. My embarrassing mistake. 50th. All the more reason to expect a decent new release.

As a Manhunter partisan the very existence of Red Dragon pisses me off.

I guess I'll watch some of it on cable someday, if there's nothing else on.

No need to be embarrassed. Release years are hard to keep track of. I'm hoping Warner releases it on 4K also for its 50th

Red Dragon is pretty mediocre considering the caliber of the cast.

If you're into Jodorowsky, I'm almost positive this will be for you.

BTW, Zulawski was a God!

Does anyone happen to know of a good book on Fritz Lang? I can't seem to find one that seems to be agreed upon, and was wondering if anyone here had read one they'd recommend.

Criterion just posted they're taking My Criterion offline at the end of April to revamp it.

They posted an image that's probably not a clue for a new release but might be fun to guess one:
