Not sure if it were mentioned before but for those stocking up on dvd titles from barnes and nobles 50% off sale it looks as though Nights of Cabiria is now OOP per Criterion's website http://www.criterion.com/films/243

I bet this is a title that may get another restoration and release and if so I would bet on a BD release... so it is kind of a gamble. You never know.

and you are right it isn't coming up on Barnes & Nobles site.. I would call to a few stores and ask if they have the criterion title Nights of Cabiria. ask them to check the stock not their computer system. Some stores could still have a copy in stock. Otherwise i would bet on a re-release..... PRO what do you think ? This is an essential Criterion title and one of the best films ever. Can't imagine Criterion losing it.

WOW even amazon.com is out of stock... they have some new/used copies starting at 24.00. this one slipped right under my radar.

I say wait for a re-issue I hope.

Yeah, unfortunately "Nights Of Cabiria" has been OOP from Criterion for quite a few months now, Powell.

For some odd reason I never noticed that it went OOP. I do own a copy. I figure it is a title that could use some work. I know it was restored previously but it could use another that is for sure. Methods have changed so much since that release.

I would certianly buy a all new restored BD of Nights of Cabiria. It is one of the most popular if not the most popular of Fellini's films. I coudl see them doing this on BD same time with Amarcord. Then again with Criterion BD releases you never know.

still want a BD for the RED SHOES so much.

Two Lane Blacktop was released before they started releasing BD's at Criterion... but I hear you I have the 2 disc DVD set and it is cool... I think it is a great summer road film so I doubt we will get it this year on BD but I am odd I watch movies based on seasons sometimes haha.

I just want every coming soon DVD release to have a BD release day and date starting as soon as possible.

I was watching Made in the U.S.A. Tuesday eve and I kept thinking ohhhh i want the BD so bad... I will rebuy it.

I apologize in advance if this question has already been answered, but are there going to be any new performances on the BD version of Monterey Pop not previously available? (Like Woodstock had, for example)

I just picked up Nights of Cabiria at a B&N store earlier this week, so you might luck out and find a copy in a store. B&N still had copies of Rebecca, Notorious and Spellbound for a while after those went out of print, and I still see copies of Contempt and Ran. I wouldn't wait too much longer, though.

I own the DVD as it's my 2nd favorite Fellini movie. But it's definitely time for a new transfer. Something tells me there's room for improvement.

Unfortunately, no. The blu-ray versions will duplicate the features on the previously released DVD versions. Criterion's website lists the features if you're unsure about them.

I checked 4 stores in my area. Everybody still has Contempt and Ran but no Cabiria. This one sluped out of my hands too. Along with Lastrada, it is my fav Fellini. I just realized I don't even own it.

Let's hope it goes Crit Blu soon or it's off to the Seller Auctions for the OOP gamble

La Strada is still available. Unless you meant they were out of stock in the store.

Barnes & Noble are good about ordering in a title for you even over the phone... they take your info and you pay when it comes in. Usually takes a few days... that is what I did for their sale. There is still enough time to get La Strada as part of their sale. Or Order online.

The 400 Blows, El Norte and Last Year in Marienbad arrived today, from Amazon. I was kind of worried about these three, since I've heard "horror" stories related to the initial cardboard sleeve Criterion blu-rays, but they showed up mostly perfect. Last Year at Mariendbad has one corner with the slightest wear on it, but other than that they look great.

I wish they would release "Spartacus" or "Brazil" on Blu, or give the rights to Universal for the extras like they did with "Do The Right Thing". The blu-ray of "The Rock" by Buena Vista also has the Criterion Extras, hopefully "Armageddon" will soon follow.

Default Downhill Racer

According to Jeffrey Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere:

"I was told last night by an excellent source that Michael Ritchie's Downhill Racer ('69), a first-rate, hand-held drama about a reckless, emotionally cut-off downhill skiier (Robert Redford) vying for Olympic glory, is being prepared as a Criterion Collection DVD. The highly regarded film has never been on DVD. No word about whether a Blu-ray version will pop through or whether Criterion will simply give it an Eddie Coyle or Hit-styled lowball release. I'm presuming the latter."

For a December release, apparently.
