I was really hoping for Detour (1945), but I have no idea how to connect that movie to the drawing. Well, maybe the car, but still, kind of a stretch.

Has anyone seen Champagne for Caesar (1950)?

I ask because for some reason, IMDb lists Albert Einstein as "Himself", and their plot description says:

In order to get even with the pompous president of a soap company, an eccentric genius goes on his quiz show in order to bankrupt his company.

Wikipedia's plot has this paragraph:

...The night of the show, he reveals that he never mastered Albert Einstein's "space-time theories". The next question is about Einstein's views of space-time. Realizing Flame has betrayed him, Beauregard struggles to come up an answer. It is incorrect. However, Einstein himself calls on the telephone to say that Beauregard's answer is right. Afterward, Beauregard confronts Flame, who has fallen for him. Unaware of this, Beauregard spanks her with her hairbrush and informs her that he deliberately misled her; he actually "spent an entire season with Einstein".

So 3 questions:

A) Is that movie Criterion-esque?

B) Can we connect it with the clue at all?



C) Why am I trying to solve this if I'm terrible with these clues and never guessed one?

YAY! My copy of The Virgin Suicides arrived, along with Elevator to the Gallows. Should be a fun night at Chez AaronJ!

And as fate would have it, because I screwed up and thought I had pre-ordered the Coppola but hadn't, and it only arrived today it means that it arrived on Kirsten Dunst's birthday. Not sure what that means, but it must mean something!

Tom Waits is one of my favorites, so that's a huge plus. I thought that his performance in Short Cuts was as good as any of the great ensemble actors in that film. It's also my favorite Lilly Tomlin role and I think they played off each other amazingly.

On that note, my favorite Tom Waits album is Nighthawks at the Diner. Man, that guy's really able to channel the Beats, in a really good way. Too bad his voice is ruined. I loved a lot of his early releases, but his singing voice is almost painful to listen to now.

Ever see Tom Waits in Ironweed? Some of his finest acting on screen.

I’m not either, but I feel like I’ve got this one. E=MC “Squared” and if I recall correctly at one point in Ruben Ostlund’s The Square, a character finds something he’s been looking for in the trunk of his car.

Not the most definitive reasoning ever, but I will say that with Depan and I, Daniel Blake, Criterion has had a habit of releasing Palme d’Or winners and The Square has yet to receive a North American release.

I haven't seen that film for ages and I completely forgot that Waits was in it. I'll need to revisit that film for that reason alone. I'm not much of a Meryl Streep fan though. She's like Tom Cruise for me (albeit a much better actor) in that I always notice it's her up there acting rather than her disappearing into her character if that makes sense.
