Where is this info that Robinson Crusoe on Mars didn't sell well coming from? Also - Broadcast News may not be to your interest, but it's a solid film that has needed a better release for a while now. |

2. I was meaning lower tier title. Like they would want to put this out before how many flagship titles and new titles? Not hating on it. Haven't seen it. Go and buy it if you want. I just see it as good news for me, that they would pop out with stuff like this instead of going all Seven Samurai or Breathless everytime they re-release. 3. Opinions man. It was a joke anyways. Why would I spend $30 to toss it out a window? ![]() Edit: Ah ha! I found this on CriterionForum about Army of Shadows: "While it is licensed from Rialto, the copright is attributed to "StudioCanal Image/Fono Roma (Italie)", and there's a StudioCanal logo stamped on the bottom. It's unquestionably an SC-held title." Last edited by SpiderBaby; 10-16-2010 at 03:47 PM. |

If you were part of a panel to select the Criterion Collection Release of the Year and narrow one for each category, think you can do it?
Which would you pick as your Criterion Collection Release of the Year 2010 (choose only one for each category and explain why): BEST CRITERION COLLECTION RELEASE OF 2010 2 Seven Samurai Akira Kurosawa (Blu-ray) 10 Walkabout Nicolas Roeg (Blu-ray) 30 M Fritz Lang (Blu-ray) 44 The Red Shoes Michael Powell (Blu-ray) 48 Black Orpheus Marcel Camus (Blu-ray) 52-53 Yojimbo/Sanuro Akira Kurosawa (Blu-ray) 57 Charade Stanley Donen (Blu-ray) 93 Black Narcissus Michael Powell (Blu-ray) 235 The Leopard Luchino Visconti (Blu-ray) 248 Videodrome David Cronenberg (Blu-ray) 408 Breathless Jean-Luc Godard (Blu-ray) 496 Che Steven Soderbergh 497-500 Roberto Rossellini’s War Trilogy Roberto Rosselini 501 Paris, Texas Wim Wnders 502 Revanche Götz Spielmann 503 Lola Montes Max Ophuls 504 Hunger Steve McQueen 505 Make Way for Tomorrow Leo Mccarey 506 Dillinger is Dead Marco Ferreri 507 Bigger Than Life Nicholas Rey 508-511 Letters from Fontainhas: Three Films by Pedro Costa 512 Vivre Sa Vie Jean-Luc Godard 513 Summer Hours Olivier Assayas 514 Ride with the Devil Ang Lee 515 The Fugitive Kind Sidney Lumet 516 Stagecoach John Ford 517-518 By Brakhage: An Anthology Volume One and Two Stan Brakhage 519 Close-Up Abbas Kiarostami 520 Everlasting Moments Jan Troell 521 Mystery Train Jim Jarmusch 522 Red Desert Michelangelo Antonioni 523 Night Train to Munich Carol Reed 524-526 The Only Son/There Was a Father Yasujiro Ozu 527 The Secret of the Grain Abdellatif Kechiche 528-531 3 Silent Classics by Josef Von Sternberg 532 Louie Bluie Terry Zwigoff 533 Crumb Terry Zwigoff 534 L’Enfance Nue Maurice Pialat 535 Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence Nagisa Oshima 536 The Thin Red Line Terrence Malick 537 The Magician Ingmar Bergman 538 Paths of Glory Stanley Kubrick 539 House Nobuhiko Obayashi 540 The Darjeeling Limited Wes Anderson 541 The Night of the Hunter Charles Laughton 542 Antichrist Lars von Trier 543 Modern Times Charles Chaplin 544-550 America Lost and Found: The BBS Story 551 Cronos Guillermo Del Toro Mexico BEST CRITERION COLLECTION BLU-RAY RELEASE OF 2010 2 Seven Samurai Akira Kurosawa 10 Walkabout Nicolas Roeg 30 M Fritz Lang 44 The Red Shoes Michael Powell 48 Black Orpheus Marcel Camus 52-53 Yojimbo/Sanuro Akira Kurosawa 57 Charade Stanley Donen 93 Black Narcissus Michael Powell 235 The Leopard Luchino Visconti 248 Videodrome David Cronenberg 408 Breathless Jean-Luc Godard 409 Days of Heaven Terrence Malick 496 Che Steven Soderbergh 501 Paris, Texas Wim Wnders 502 Revanche Götz Spielmann 503 Lola Montes Max Ophuls 504 Hunger Steve McQueen 507 Bigger Than Life Nicholas Rey 512 Vivre Sa Vie Jean-Luc Godard 513 Summer Hours Olivier Assayas 514 Ride with the Devil Ang Lee 516 Stagecoach John Ford 517-518 By Brakhage: An Anthology Volume One and Two Stan Brakhage 519 Close-Up Abbas Kiarostami 520 Everlasting Moments Jan Troell 521 Mystery Train Jim Jarmusch 522 Red Desert Michelangelo Antonioni 527 The Secret of the Grain Abdellatif Kechiche 532 Louie Bluie Terry Zwigoff 533 Crumb Terry Zwigoff 535 Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence Nagisa Oshima 536 The Thin Red Line Terrence Malick 537 The Magician Ingmar Bergman 538 Paths of Glory Stanley Kubrick 539 House Nobuhiko Obayashi 540 The Darjeeling Limited Wes Anderson 541 The Night of the Hunter Charles Laughton 542 Antichrist Lars von Trier 543 Modern Times Charles Chaplin 544-550 America Lost and Found: The BBS Story 551 Cronos Guillermo Del Toro Mexico BEST CRITERION COLLECTION BOX-SET RELEASE OF 2010 52-53 Yojimbo/Sanjuro (Blu-ray) Akira Kurosawa 497-500 Roberto Rossellini’s War Trilogy Roberto Rosselini 508-511 Letters from Fontainhas: Three Films by Pedro Costa 517-518 By Brakhage: An Anthology Volume One and Two Stan Brakhage 524-526 The Only Son/There Was a Father Yasujiro Ozu 528-531 3 Silent Classics by Josef Von Sternberg 544-550 America Lost and Found: The BBS Story Essential Art House: Volume Five BEST ECLIPSE SERIES OF THE YEAR (2010): 19 Chantal Akerman In the Seventies 20 George Bernard Shaw on Film 21 Oshima’s Outlaw Sixties 22 Presenting Sacha Guitry 23 The First Films of Akira Kurosawa 24 The Actuality Dramas of Allan King Last edited by kndy; 10-16-2010 at 06:54 PM. |

Hard Boiled and The Killer are very unlikely as they no longer have the rights to either film. There have been cases in the past of Criterion regaining rights to films (such as Salo) but there's nothing, even on the rumor front, of this happening to Woo's films. The Rock and Armageddon. Not impossible, but fairly unlikely for three reasons. First, there are currently well produced Blu-rays of both titles (The Rock even maintains many of the Criterion extras) it's not impossible to licence these titles for dual release - it's happened before, but it's unlikely. Second, The Rock and Armageddon were released for a large number of political reasons in their day which no longer exist. They were given to Criterion as part of a package to receive other less mainstream titles and they provided an economic shot in the arm that Criterion needed during their entry to DVD. They are also considred by many to be the two least worthy titles of Criterion release and as such there's a smaller market among Criterion collectors for these titles. (Larger audience in the general public perhaps, but see reason number 1) Third, Criterion was undergoing a minor identity change in the late nineties. In the Laserdisc days they had a much wider reach in terms of obtaining rights and released far more contemporary titles (Pulp Fiction, Ghostbusters, etc) but with the DVD explosion they refined their focus to the more avant garde. Criterion 2010 is a different beast than the company that released the Bay titles. So none of your four titles is impossible, but I would probably rate them as possibly the four least likely titles to be revisited of the entire collection. Nonetheless, I wish you well in your quest to find quality Blu-rays of those titles. |
