This has been strongly rumored for a while now, and Akijama also had posted a list of Warner titles a while back that had went OOP at the same time, which all could very well be with Criterion. Bolded ones are already released, or are coming soon.

In case it wasn't posted yet: Bunch of titles were recently listed as discontinued on WB's press site. Some of them already released by Criterion (Being There, Mildred Pierce, Pan's Labyrinth etc.), and the rest of the list is definitely something that Criterion would love to bring into their fold.

I would love to see Criterion release director Kohei Oguri's film Muddy River (Doro no kawa) one day.

An overlooked but beautifully crafted film. I think it would make a great addition to the Criterion Collection.

The film essentially launched the film careers of Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, and made director Michael Curtiz a powerhouse in Hollywood.

It's precisely the kind of movie that needs more representation in the collection.

I'm going to also add that Warner's I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang badly needs a Blu release. The DVD for it went OOP a long time ago plus its well worthy of a Criterion release being one of the first films to document the abuses of the chain gang system.

It’s with Lionsgate, who has a deal with StudioCanal. I doubt they’d start working with Criterion again if they have a deal with one of their biggest competitors, but we can all dream.

This is a different restoration but Criterion’s release is already from a 4k restoration. Can’t see them re-releasing it.

I wonder if Criterion will ever put out David Fincher's Seven on BD? Id certainly buy it if they did. For now I'm just waiting for them to put out the other Godzilla stuff they have on BD. Those are my most wanted titles from them on BD right now.

Me too. I can't stand the wait for War of the Gargantuas, its killing me. I almost bought the japanese blu multiple times even though it has no english subtitles and the extras are not english friendly. Hell, I practically have the dialogue memorized anyway ! I kept waiting for an American release and now its up to $62.00. One good thing is that the U.S. DVD is amazing PQ wise (the one with Rodan packaged with it) but I want those extras.....bad !!

If there is any new scan / remaster of Se7en I'd rather Warner re-issue their superlative blu-ray release with the new transfer (or put out a UHD). There is absolutely nothing that Criterion can add here.

The Adventures of Robin Hood was released by Criterion on laserdisc back in the late 1980s. As such, I wouldn't be surprised to see some Flynn titles like Captain Blood and The Sea Hawk released by Criterion. One of my biggest disappointments with the Warner Archive blu-ray line has been the lack of Errol Flynn titles, and it would be nice to see Criterion pick up the Flynn slack.

Femme Fatale + Brian DePalma. It's mind boggling that such a visual dazzler isn't on bluray anywhere.

MGM Musicals and Vincente Minnelli are a close second/third. Some Came Running and The Long, Long Trailer need to be on my shelf in HD!

Regarding Warner titles, I’d really enjoy some silents (Greed, The Crowd, The Unknown, The Cameraman), Pre-Code films (Freaks, I Am A Fugitive From a Chain Gang, The Thin Man), and others that haven’t gotten Blu-ray releases (A Night at the Opera, Nothing Lasts Forever, After Hours, O Lucky Man!, Zabriskie Point, Star 80, Straight Time, Defending Your Life, Pennies from Heaven).

You'd think that Criterion would really be eager to get a Buster Keaton title into its ranks. There are some rumors that The Cameraman may have been licensed by Criterion (there is a phantom page for Edward Sedgwick). If so, I hope Spite Marriage was licensed as well.

It be nice for The Cameraman to come out and you think Criterion want to get Buster Keaton on Blu also it's his greatest role IMHO. Greed would be intriguing, I just saw it a few weeks ago for the first time. Criterion could add a lot of context to Greed and what Von Stroheim's intentions were. I second A Night at the Opera. Finally, I add that it be cool if Criterion would release 1926's The Scarlet Letter and 1928's The Wind. I don't think the latter two Lillian Gish films have seen a proper HV release.

And I also would add Gunga Din to the much needed Blu list. Also since it looks like there's a recent restoration of Fail-Safe it needs the big C treatment.

I wouldn't watch it as frequently as the two I listed, but it's probably the best Minnelli not on blu.

I really wish Warner would decide what it wants to do with its higher profile silents like the ones you cited. With the exception of The Big Parade, these films have been MIA in the DVD and blu-ray era. The company seems to be in something of a conundrum. They value them and may be reluctant to license them, but they may not want to spend the money to prepare new HD masters (for that matter, Raintree County seems to be in a similar debacle). I wonder if Warners' experience with the release of The Big Parade is analogous to what Paramount had with Wings - a costly project that lost a good deal of money even though the blu-ray and DVD releases sold very well by silent film standards. John McElwee recently wrote a post about Greed at his Greenbriar Picture Shows blog, and he mentions that the film's critical renown has been fading in recent years. I have to wonder if a lack of an official DVD/blu-ray has had anything to do with that.

On a related note, I wish that Criterion would do something with Erich von Stroheim's The Wedding March (that is assuming that Criterion has the rights to it).
