Would also be down for Wizards and Cool World (the former should be a no-brainer considering Eureka handled it in the UK, and a lot of their titles are Criterion-worthy).

Pretty good guesses. Makes sense given previous clues.

FFS, man, just use one spoiler cap for all of the pictures. Haha.

Oh...and I would buy Criterion Blu-rays of every one of those, except for the one second from the bottom. I'm dead serious. They're all pretty fun flicks.

I don't know man, those pics are kinda big. Perhaps some people are not in the mood for that kind of humor and would complain about a bunch of pics messing with their navigation.

People complain about everything.

[Show spoiler]I can tolerate most of the Police Academy series, but Mission to Moscow did not hold up for me at all.

A Criterion edition of the first one (or few) would be awesome though.

I bought Baal, so I might as well buy every one of those twice. It had pretty much no value to me except for admiring Rainer Werner Fassbinder's acting ability (which is, meh, okay I guess).

I'm sure we can round up more fans here for Jellyfish Eyes, A Safe Place, ______, and ________.

You'd buy one of "Mission to Moscow", Owl? I ran through the "Police Academy" box set a few months back and 1-3 are dumb fun, 4 is awful but watchable, but 5-7 are absolutely abysmal. The presence of Ron Perlman and Christopher Lee elevate it slightly over #5, the one where they go to Miami Beach, which is just a steaming pile of horse manure.

But I do think this may be the starting point of a pages-long discussion of the "Police Academy" series, which would be fantastic.

Now that we're honest, I would take at least 4 of those over Tiny Furniture. At least I can laugh with them... Every one of those, except Dumb & Dumberer.

If you're feeling impatient I would personally recommend the Criterion double disc DVD set which comes with some great extras and the silent version Ozu made decades earlier (a strong film as well).

There have been new Ozu restorations from Japan kicking around for years that haven't been put on disc by Criterion yet so it's possible you could be waiting a long time for them to upgrade Floating Weeds.
Good stuff. Thanks. I may pick up the Criterion DVD during the next B&N event.

Also, I just saw that there is a Japanese BD release coming up. Interesting to see reviews, although no English subs indicated:

I've seen most of the Police Academy movies from way back when, and I even bought the region free UK Blu-ray box set of all of the films, but that set is sitting in my still-unwatched stack to keep me company on a rainy weekend someday.

Yeah, they start losing steam around the fourth movie, but....still...they're fun.

I'm with you on 1-4. 6 is better than 5 and 7. I thought 5 and 7 were hard to get through. You can easily get through them on a lazy weekend as they're all really short.

Wizards has a good release from Fox. I think Fritz and the director's cut of Hey Good Lookin' (along with the previously mentioned American Pop) would be the most deserving of Criterions.

That Criterion DVD isn’t right either, too bright and too magenta. The MOC with some warm color temperature tweaks is still the best one can do at the moment.

Hey, now! I'm offended by your comment. It's an unfair characterization about our society today in general. Just because we've become fat and lazy, and feel entitled to everything we want, when we want it, it doesn't give you the right to lambast those who like to express their displeasure about something.

I don't know if I'm more horrified, or befuddled that somebody green lit a film starring Vanilla Ice. At first I thought it was a spoof, but when I went to imdb, I couldn't believe that this thing actually exists. Funnier, still, is under the review section, some guy starts off his review with, "Right, I've seen this movie 10 times in one week." Some people are into self abuse, I guess.

I did laugh, though. A little levity is always appreciated.

If Criterion ever tackled anime an English friendly Blu of

Macross Do you Remember Love

would be top of my list; the Japanese disc is fantastic but no English sub titles unfortunately. Still with the legalities surrounding this title I don't think it will ever happen.

Why deny yourself. It has a Blu-ray release. I actually own two copies. Only for Private School though.
