I bet the announcements will be some completely obscure stuff no one was neither expecting nor wished for... Like Baal or Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles.

So are we not getting announcements today because of the site's updates still being "under construction"?

If I walked out of a film after 10-15 minutes with the excuse that "this movie is terrible" well, that would be a lie because I haven't seen the movie, just a ten-fifteen minute chunk of it. Even if the entire movie turned out to be horrible, at least I am qualified to state that it is horrible.

For some people who aren't into movies, if they choose to leave without seeing the whole thing, that's fine. But I think for cinephiles, it's important to take the bad with the good. It makes you appreciate the masterpieces all the more.
There are 3 types of filmgoers I don't respect:
  1. Those people who talk during a movie
  2. Those people who fall asleep during a movie
  3. Those people who walk out of a movie

For my last point, that's my biggest irritant. Either commit to a movie or don't. Do your research before you pay $10 or whatever it is to spend time with friends at a movie theater. 2 friends of mine walked out of a movie within the first 5 min. of the film starting which pissed me off, because I had been waiting all day to meet up with them, and they didn't give a flying f*#k about their friends. Ironically, both movies they walked out of were Oscar-award-winning films (La La Land and 3 Billboards). I lose my respect when people do that.

I've never walked out of a movie yet in my life. Maybe it was my B.A. in Film Studies I got that made me appreciate not only great films but really bad films I was forced to watch and write about.

Release titles like those and someone complains. Release titles like The Breakfast Club and someone else complains. Even though they put out a vast range of stuff in order to try to please everyone, Criterion still wind up taking heat.

What if you fall asleep during a movie you've already seen? I do that all the time. I always watch a movie before I go to bed. But it's always a movie I've seen. So I'll just watch the first half an hour before going to bed.

Lol...JEANNE DIELMAN is one of the most important films ever made and arguably the most acclaimed film a woman has ever directed. This user was ecstatic upon it’s announcement, and I can assure you, so were many other members, universities, cinéastes, and libraries across the globe.

But hey dude, I’m sure if you wait long enough they’ll announce RESERVOIR DOGS one day. Keep hopin’!

Sure, if its a film you've seen already no problem, but if its a first time viewing especially in a movie theater, that gets to me.

On a separate note, it was a dealbreaker for a date I was supposed to have when I texted her back saying "Sorry, but out of respect and consideration for the rest of the theater, I won't talk to you during the movie nor hold your hand the whole time. I like to be left alone so I can "escape" into a film." She didn't seem to get my point. Probably was better off not meeting her. Lol.

I never understood why people eat in cinemas. Saw Cries and Whispers the other night and for 15 minutes during intro all you could hear was wrapper sounds from some old lady, mind you she did get yelled at in the end.

But why!?

I get snacks, popcorn, an alcoholic beverage, etc., but it's entire meals that start to get on my nerves. This last weekend we went and saw Rampage and the dude in front of me ordered fajita's and the entire theater smelled of peppers and onions for a good 30 minutes...

After hearing wrapper sounds for the first hour of The Conjuring I vowed to never watch a horror movie in a theater again

I think you have it all wrong.

All hail Jeanne Dielman! One of the absolutely best films they could upgrade and one of the best films ever made.

I get so mad about eating in movies this thread gave me validation. I hate listening to you eat, I hate your smells, I hate you personally for doing the things you are doing. Go to the movies to expearence something, not occupy all your senses at the same time.

Also let’s get some Cold Water announced today.

People don't eat in theaters to keep the theaters open but that is actually what does it.

So be careful what you wish for and whatnot.

Getting sleepy isn't something I've really ever experienced while at a movie theatre, but at home, sure, sometimes if I'm watching a movie late at night I might get unexpectedly sleepy. I'll just finish what I missed later, or re-watch it at another time. I don't really see the issue there.

You know what? Most people get that talking during a movie is pretty disrespectul, but if I was a girl and I got a text from a guy like that, I'd think you were some antisocial creep and wouldn't have met up with you either.

Sometimes for the greater good, you have to put your personal quirks aside and when it comes to possibly getting laid vs. escaping into a film, yeah, the film takes a back seat every time.

She probably just thought you were overly serious by having to preface those conditions in the first place.

She could've been a nice gal!
