It'll be released.

Thank god! This little gem is long overdue. I wonder if we will be seeing a newly remastered 4k scan?

It is AMAZING. Glad I saw it at a local cinema playing it on 35mm.

Must the Three Colors Trilogy be watched in order? From what I gather, it is Blue, White, Red. But a theater near me is doing two triple features, White, Red, Blue & Red, Blue, White. Wanna determine my best course of action.

It doesn't really matter with the first two, but Red must be watched last.

The best way to see them is in order: Blue, White, Red.

That theater is messing up the rotation, and someone should let them know that. Like the posters above me stated, Red has to be watched last for maximum effect.

Has it been confirmed that Criterion will be releasing a 4K restoration of The Battle of Algiers? Is that still in development?

See White and Blue and the first screening and then Red at the second one.

Ah, well, work is a factor, so we’ll see about that.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine anything other than Blue, White, Red as a running order. Red definitely ought to be last, but putting White in the middle for a little comic relief is pretty essential too, I think.

No it has not been confirmed. Also the new restoration, at least as presented on the Studio Canal blu-ray appears to be problematic. Pro-B in his review says this about the video:
Quote:
The new 4K restoration offers some predictable improvements in terms of density, but that is where virtually all of its meaningful advantages end. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, the entire film has a questionable grading that frequently flattens darker footage and in some instances even collapses detail. I don't know if this is a side effect that is present only on a digital master that was created after the restoration was completed, but it is something that is common on many 4K restorations that have been completed at Bologna and then introduced on Blu-ray (for reference, the 4K restoration of Rocco and His Brothers has virtually all the same shortcomings). On smaller screens these anomalies can be somewhat easy to ignore, but on a larger screen the flatness frequently becomes very obvious (you can see clear examples in screencaptures #6 and 9). Elsewhere there is also some noticeable black crush that appears linked to a type of softness that is not inherited. In other words, the film's dynamic range is rather problematic.

I've seen the 4KDCP in theatre, it blew the old transfer Criterion used away, sadly the UK blu-ray from Cult Films was poorly encoded.

Kristen Stewart is a pretty horrible actress. I own Adventureland because I really liked the movie, but she’s the same in everything she’s in, kinda like Kevin Costner and Nick Cage. I haven’t watched the whole movie, but if you like watching Kristen Stewart read a bunch of phone texts then the movie would be a good buy. I will also admit I don’t own may newer films or tend to enjoy them very much. I’ve always believed a film needs about 15 years to marinate before Criterion starts putting it in their collection, but that’s a whole other issue.

I mean if the film looks interesting or worth the money to you, then buy it. I, like everyone else like a fair share of movies that aren’t universally celebrated, and I dislike a few films that are universally recognized as “great films”. So far I’ve only bought one Criterion out of the 80 or so I own that I strongly disliked, and most were blind buys, so you’re generally the best judge of what you should buy.

There is no Barnes and Noble location in the actual city of San Francisco. The only SF store closed over 7 years ago. I used to go to that one often during my younger years cause it was only a ten minute walk from where I lived. The closest store for me now would be at the Tanforan mall in San Bruno which is about a 10-15 minute drive south from the city. They have a decent size selection of Criterion titles which is often restocked during the sale. That is my go-to store for the sale though I haven't been going that often recently because of the inability to use coupons in conjunction with the sale. The Emeryville store has a decent size Criterion selection as well but you will have to cross the Bay Bridge to get there from the city and there is a $4-$6 bridge toll.

Come now, Nic Cage can slum it many times but try telling me that he's the same in say, Raising Arizona and Wild at Heart.

Kevin Costner is awesome (yeah he's been in some stinkers but who hasn't); he has a great range and has played a lot of very different characters.

Hmm...

Excellent news about Wanda, but the aspect ratio on the crappy non-anamorphic DVD is 1.66:1. The remastered footage in that trailer is 1.35:1.

Anyway, Isabella Huppert deserves a shout-out for getting that rare gem on DVD in the first place and giving it more exposure.
