True, but at the same time, Psycho and The Birds would arguably be profitable for Criterion.

Recently watched The Wages of Fear and Friedkin's quasi remake Sorcerer on back to back nights. As much as I love the former, I think Friedkin's update may ever so slightly out distance it. My jaw hits the floor EVERY time I see the bridge crossing. That kind of balls to the wall film making has fallen completely by the wayside. Friedkin himself has admitted he way overdid it in his younger days, but the intensity he captured on film in those years is powerful stuff.

Wages holds the honor of being one of the 1st Criterions I ever purchased. It never ceases to hold up on successive views. Desperate men doing insane things and it creates an irresistible atmosphere of tension and suspense.

The current blus already look pretty damn good and are loaded with extras. I don't see the point. Notorious is coming soon though (my favorite Hitch), and the current blu was very mediocre.

They are profitable enough that Criterion won't get 'em anytime soon. I'd be surprised if they weren't the two big sellers out of the Hitchcock set.

I don't remember whether Criterion has "Blackmail" or not; they have some of the unreleased "Hitchcock 9", but not all of them.

I'd rather see actual 4K releases of those, and since Criterion doesn't release Ultra 4K discs, no thanks.

Fincher is one of those directors I didn't know I liked until I owned just about every film he's done. A few years ago when I began collecting blu-rays, I started out buying movies that I had seen and wanted to either add to my collection for the first time, or upgrade from a DVD. Well, a friend who was also a movie lover struck up a conversation with me one day, asking for my impression of Fincher. I was embarrassed to admit that I knew nothing about him. When he mentioned five or six of the movies he'd directed, I realized that I owned them all.

"I guess I'm a David Fincher fan!"
The only thing better than appearing as an extra on a David Fincher production (in terms of the cherry on top) would have been to actually meet him and get a selfie. Well, believe it or not, a woman I had met recently in a "Business of Photography" class we both were in got that amazing opportunity. After the day wrapped up on Tuesday around 8pm, I turned in my wardrobe and bolted out of the sound stage. Had I stayed and hung around for maybe 10 or 15 more minutes I might have had a chance to get a selfie with David Fincher, as Allison (the woman from my photography class) did just that! She isn't even a fan or knows much about Fincher (unlike me), but sometimes things happen for a reason.

Anyway, just for sh#ts and giggles, here's HER selfie (and this other guy who was an extra who I have no idea about) with the one and only David Fincher!

(I'm damn jealous I missed out, so don't get me started... esp. since I got a pic with Jim Jarmusch last November! Getting a shot with Fincher would have been a nice addition to my "selfie (or group selfie) with director collection").

The Tenant (Roman Polanski, 1976)
Hour of the Wolf (Ingmar Bergman, 1968)
The Devils (Ken Russell, 1971)
I Walked with a Zombie (Jacques Tourneur, 1943)
Funny Games (Michael Haneke, 1997)
Night of the Demon (Jacques Tourneur, 1957)
Häxan upgrade (Benjamin Christensen, 1922)
Excellent, excellent choices! If I had to choose I think it's a tie for me between Freaks and Hour of the Wolf over which I'd want to see first. Would be cool if that were the whole list of October titles though

I do really want to see Elephant Man get the CC treatment as well

I hope they have it. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to catch a screening of Blackmail at the Oriental Theatre in Milwaukee with a live orchestra. It deserves the Criterion treatment.

I always wanted to see Haxan, so I would buy it though probably not right away. Freaks is intriguing and I would buy it down the road.

When I watched Blackmail on TCM, I saw the Studiocanal logo. If that's the case I doubt we will ever see it. I also like to see someone bring Hitchcock's 1937 Young And Innocent to the US.

Criterion does have that one, and several other early Hitch titles, at least digitally

Vampyr and Haxan are the only Criterion dvds I bought. Vampyr came out on blu soon after but seems I didn't bite the bullet for everyone with Haxan. Maybe you will be the lucky buyer if you get the dvd lol

Nice. Maybe one day we can get an Early Hitchcock set minus the films that have already been released. I think anything with Hitchcock would sell well even if many of these are less known.
