Last night I watched Paris, Texas for the time ever and thought it was an absolutely lovely film. Then today in the morning while scrolling down on my facebook feed I see a post by Criterion saying that Robby Müller died on Tuesday. That's devastating.

I may just rewatch Paris, Texas again, probably with commentary or even spin Repo Man tonight.

The Tenant (Roman Polanski, 1976)
Hour of the Wolf (Ingmar Bergman, 1968)
The Devils (Ken Russell, 1971)

Night of the Demon (Jacques Tourneur, 1957)
Häxan upgrade (Benjamin Christensen, 1922)
I would love to see The Tenant and I Walked with a Zombie in the collection. Also, it's not horror but I would be very happy to see John Sayles' Limbo get the Criterion treatment.

I'm confused about the "soon after" comment. The Criterion DVD for Vampyr came out in 2008. The earliest I see any blu-ray for Vampyr, as part of an import, is in June of 2017 (from an Italian Dreyer collection). As an individual issue, Criterion released Vampyr in October of last year.

What am I missing?

Needless to say, I will be adding it to my Criterion collection. I end up loving pretty much anything the Monty Python gang does.

In case anyone was interested I stayed in tonight and picked out three absolutely amazing CCs just by chance. Best Friday night Ever!!

Started with El Sur buy it. Don't ask any questions just DO IT! Such an amazing dreamy film. I cant even process this film right now.

Then I thought why not try

The Virgin Spring HOLY CRAP! Mind blown again. Im sure I dont even need to mention how unbelieveably amazing this film is. Its been written and talked about and everything everyone says is true.

Now Morocco from the Dietrich/Von Sternberg box. Im half scared to even start it. Im not sure I can handle three mindblowing films in one night.

This world cup has reawakened my desire to see Zoltán Fábri's 1962 film Két félidő a pokolban (Two Halves in Hell, aka: Two Half-Times in Hell, aka: The Last Goal) get an official release stateside for basically the first time ever.

Like the 1981 soccer flick Escape for Victory (starring Sylvester Stallone, Michael Cain, and the Brazilian soccer legend Pele), this is loosely based on the legendary Death Match, a reported football match between a Nazi German team and Ukrainian prisoners of war in Kyiv. It's believed that this film (and Victory) may have actually inspired the original The Longest Yard. Unlike Victory, however, this one is actually good.

I'm probably the only person on the planet who wants this random, black and white Hungarian soccer movie released. But if anyone else is interested in maybe checking this one out one day, feel free to throw a request towards Criterion's email suggestions@criterion.com with me.

Please let Criterion know that The Hungarian National Film Archive seems to have the rights (at least within Hungary): http://www.filmintezet.hu/en/dvd/cat...lected-works-i

I can't think of any other label who would even entertain the idea of touching it. Any help to get this released would be much appreciated.

I'm assuming it's one of those cases where you hold out for a blu ray release and eventuallybyou break down and buy the DVD. Right after you buy the DVD, the company announces a blu ray release. Looks like it worked for Vampy with the poster. Someone else will have to break down and buy the Haxan DVD for Criterion to announce the blu ray.

I have been eyeing the Haxan DVD. If I buy it this sale, Criterion will announce a new Haxan blu ray for October.

I see some posters are speculating for the likely July 16th announcements for October. As one or two horror titles usually get announced for that month, I'm really hoping for a Blu upgrade on Brian De Palma's Sisters (especially given the recent passing of Margot Kidder) as well as something new and enticing (whatever that may be...surprise me!).

Watched the 2k restoration of Virgin Spring last night, looks absolutely stunning. One of Bergman's best and more simplistic films, definitely worth the upgrade.

I finished watching The Age of Innocence. Gorgeous transfer. Wish it had a Scorsese commentary, but oh well. Probably in my top five Scorsese films. Criterion for the umpteenth time, please release After Hours.

Can anyone give me some thoughts on Jabberwocky? I'm not a HUGE Gilliam fan but I really like The Fisher King, Time Banidts, and Brazil. Twelve Monkeys, Fear and Loathing and pretty much everything else has disappointed me. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

If anyone else is interested in learning a bit about the director, Zoltán Fábri, I think the Hungarian Nation Film Archive actually has restored and released his entire filmography (for the most part, at least) on DVD in Hungary WITH ENGLISH SUBS! No clue on region status though.

Still, his films are so hard to find and obscure that any Criterion Collection attention would be nothing short of revolutionary.

Quote:
Zoltán Fábri Collected Works I.

Collection of five DVD's. The first collection of the oeuvre series produced on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth contains the most extinguished early Fábri-classics made between 1955 and 1961, completely restored, and accompanied by a great number of both, contemporary and freshly produced, bonus features.
Movie DVD's:

1. Merry-Go-Round (1955)
2. Professor Hannibál (1956)
3. Anna (1958)
4. Two Half-Times in Hell (1961)
5. Bonus features

Zoltán Fábri Collected Works II.

The second collection of the oeuvre series published for the 100th anniversary of his birth contains films primarily of the Modernist period made between 1959-1969, including 13 bonus features, contemporary as well as brand-new.
„On the whole, I always want to make a film about the same thing. The effect of fear born of violence crushing the human spirit and crippling the soul.” (Zoltán Fábri)

Movie DVD's:

1. The Brute (1960)
2. Twenty Hours (1965)
3. Late Season (1966)
4. The Boys of Paul Street (1968)
5. The Tot Family (1969)

Haxan would need a new restoration, and I don't think I've heard anything about one.

Speaking of Spooky October releases.

Can we get CASPER with a brand new 4K restoration, interviews and commentary track with Christina Ricci.

... Is that too much to ask for.
