$139.95 for all of them....... not too shabby. Thanks for the heads' up.... I suppose they'll keep the $27.99 price for a week or two..... then it's $30-$32 or so.

Criterion To Lower Retail Prices On Some DVD Titles This November

It's actually on seven titles, but does this mean there might be some more blu-rays down the road... especially "Down By Law" and "Short Cuts?"

This is exactly what I'm doing right now. In the past 2 months I've bought 10-15 Criterion Blu's off of eBay, carefully weeding out which ones were in good condition and which weren't, and now I'm just patiently waiting for the B&N sale. With the exception of trying to get The Third Man for as low a price as possible, which is exactly as hard as it sounds.

The article (or blog, or whatever this thing is) specifically stated DVD vs. Blu-ray (the "Doppleganger" that is.... negative connotation intentional????? )

If by "more Blu-rays down the road" are you suggesting MSRP price reductions on them? Additional announcements?

By "more blu-rays down the road," I'm merely suggesting the thought of more announcements in relation to the decrease in those DVD prices. Surely, we can all expect "Down By Law" at some point since it was part of the original Amazon poll.

I would happy to be on some of the set's features.

After the smoke cleared on this and as much as I love Fuller, I might only just be getting that awesome Eclipse set that month. I'll wait to see the Army of Shadows review to see if it's really worth double-dipping for. I'm hardcore like that. Criterion is not going to make me buy everything.

I put in my pre-orders for all the titles for Jan. I have HOUSE pre-ordered and it has that awful price of 34.99 for it. I was hoping for a slight price drop before Tuesday on the title.

Wait for the 1/2 off B&N sale that starts just a few weeks later. That's what I'm doing. I'll be getting House, Paths of Glory, The Magician, Breathless and a few others. Wish I had held off on Seven Samurai now that I know that the sale is for real.

I took Oct 26th off to watch the Alien set and House. I can't wait another week at all.

Are you going to get "Paths of Glory," as well, PP? If so, why don't you order directly from Criterion and use the RHINO code for 10%-off, which will bring the price down to $57.53 for both? Of course, it then becomes a crap-shoot whether you'll get the movies by Tuesday or not.

Yeah I have that ordered also... but I have PRIME on amazon to have them delivered on the release date. I have PATHS pre-ordered at 29.49 though

The only one that I'm getting before the sale (on release date) is Paths of Glory...since I'm a huge Kubrick fan and CAN'T wait!

It won't be too bad as I'm a member and have a $5.00 coup from BN...I think it comes out $26.99 before tax...I can live with that!

If he's a BN member and has the ability to go to a store, then he can get House and/or Paths of Glory for 20% off plus a $5.00 coup. That makes each $26.99 each or $53.98 before tax.

If you want to use this option, just make sure you call your local store and have them hold a copy for you. Tell them to "order" it and not to "hold" a copy that comes to the store on the release date. Occasionally, they don't get all titles on release date, but if you have them order a copy, you will get it for sure on the release date.

This is what I'm doing with "Paths".

Funny reading here about the merits of Wes Anderson. I have to admit, I'm not a fan myself (but had only seen Royal Tannenbaums), but earlier this week I watched the new BD of Darjeeling Limited, and thought it not half-bad. The plot has its ups and downs (for me,
[Show spoiler]the death of the boy really came out of left field
), the characterisation is (like all of his films) wacko. I've ben to India (that, too, for me generates mixed feelings), and he clearly enjoyed emphasizing the remarkably colourful nature of Rajahstan. I would at least recommend it to any potential viewer.

Nice looking film, but I was bored beyond belief when I watched it.

Make sure when you calculate your membership discount you do 39.99 - 10% =35.99 then -10% again = 32.39 -5.00 = 27.39 + whatever your sales tax is. I think here it is about 7.5%ish

Hmm. I disagree
[Show spoiler]The beginning of the film was about people trying to "force" a spiritual journey - laminated schedules etc. There removal from the train is the end of that failed journey. Their second journey begins with the death of the boy. The journey they don't plan is the one that brings them the spirituality they couldn't generate on a planned basis.

Of course you said it seemed to come out of left field for you, which I can't argue with. I can only speak to my own reaction. Cheers.

By the way. For one odd reason or another I seem to be involved in many Anderson related discussions here lately, I'm not one of his superfans. I just happen to be in that conversational mode for whatever reason.
