But I have to balance this latter with the possibility that the ones I don't have will be released individually. However, that hasn't happened with the Tati or the Demy sets.

Dang....glad I have several months to think about this.
I'm assuming that all of the titles that are already individually available from Criterion will port over all the same special features, do you not think that'll be the case?

Been a bit of a wait, but me second B&N order came in. All blind-buys, so I hope I chose well.

I'm pretty excited to binge-watch a lot of movies, but real life is being a real pain right now. Can't watch many Criterions or movies in general when my folks are crashing at my house--it's a long story. Maybe in a month, I'll get through 'em.

Woman in the Dunes was a high-ranker on the community top Asian film list, so I had to get it. The others just caught my eye based on plot summaries, screencaps, or some other thing.

I came pretty dang close to buying the Seijun Suziki movies (Branded to Kill, Tokyo Drifter) again. I had them before, decided to sell them in a major purge because I didn't think they captivated me much. But I really dig Suzuki's older stuff (have the two Arrow volumes, and just now the Detective Bureau sets). Once he made this switch to "gonzo" style films, he seemed to lose me (I really couldn't stand those Taisho Trilogy films). Seeing as these two are kinda in the middle of his career, I'm curious to hear what other folks' thoughts are--did I give up too easily?

I realized I meant to order Mishima, but I must have taken it off of cart. How does that one stack up compared to Schrader's other work?

EDIT:
Oh yeah, I saw the big news today. I'm totally keeping that Bergman set on my radar.

It seems like most people I know or talk to don't have a clue about Bergman yet here everyone is excited about the set. I take comfort in that. It's been a good day. Now I'm glad that I haven't upgraded The Virgin Spring yet.

Wow, I just sold off a few of my Bergmans, as I just don't rewatch some as much as others. Glad I did, as I got some funds back to go towards this. At first, I had to read it twice, as I did not realise the WHOLE set was on blu. I thought there were a few dvd's thrown in, but what a fantastic surprise. IMO, this may be the best offering CC has ever had, especially considering the price. I have this strange feeling though this will not be available during the BN sale, but who knows. If it goes for $150, then they will sell many, many sets.

We know they exclude the coupons, online at least, but yeah, I have that feeling this may be excluded also. Who knows. The one thing that bothers me about the set is the discs are in that book. The presentation looks great, but too many book presentations scratch discs. Hopefully those pages have a coating, or something to that degree to protect them.

I don't believe I've ever seen a Criterion box set that was excluded from the 50% off sale...

OK, I like the olympics. I have never seen any of these movies, and I probably wouldn't watch most of them anytime soon, but it could be cool to have around and boring day I can always pop one of these on and relive some of the glory or experience some history I never knew about.

I assume this set comes highly recommended?
Hmm. Something weird. A few minutes ago I refreshed Amazon and the lightning deal said something like "22% claimed". Just a few minutes later, I refresh again and it says "Temporarily out of Stock".

That's kind of annoying. I was procrastinating on putting in an order while I figured out if I really wanted it, and as soon as I saw it go suddenly out of stock I was like "Damn, shoulda bought it".

Yeah, but they have never offered a set like this...
Plus, this is also being released right when that BN sale is typically offered. Seems strange that it will be 50% off less than a month after it is released. Hopefully it is, but if not, may have to wait for the CC Flash sale.
I know one long time CC thread poster that is very happy. He doesn't make appearances very often, but Mr. CCFIXX your ultimate set is here....

[Show spoiler]

Got the Nikkatsu Noir set last weekend and have already watched two. I Am Waiting looks a bit rough but not bad and the story is good, the first half is more melodrama than noir though. Take Aim At the Police Van looks pretty good and the story is very entertaining.

I have it and I’ve seen it - the film is fantastic as is the the quality of the Criterion edition. I have no idea what that person is talking about.

As has been the case with several B&N sales, The Killers has (have?) been in my cart, only to get dropped prior to checkout-- somewhat mixed reviews of the PQ of the 1946 version have spooked me.

So, is it worth getting? Or should I wait for some sort of upgrade?

Nikkatsu Noir is great. I've seen 2 of the 5(Cruel Gun Story and A Colt is My Passport). I really want to get it during one of the sales. That and the Silent Ozu Eclipse sets.

About the only thing that could match the Bergman news would be if Criterion reaches a deal with Studiocanal to allow them to release their stuff in the US/Canada again.

I've got both Arrow's Nikkatsu Diamond Guys sets and the Seijun Suzuki Early Films sets from Arrow, and love all this stuff, so I was thinking of getting the Eclipse set. Only thing giving me hesitation is that it's all DVD, but would you recommend it for me?

I'm practically giddy about this Bergman set, even if some of these probably technically represent a quadruple-dip (I shudder to think how many times I've bought Persona, going back to VHS days). I figured Criterion would do something special involving Bergman this year, but I never imagined this!
