Also any opinions on 2 or 3 titles to choose from these below. Trying to narrow down a final haul outside of the pair of Eclipse sets I plan to buy.

El Sur
Beyond the Hills
Kameradschaft
Canoa: A Shameful Memory
Based on your avatar, I think you'd like Canoa. It is pretty disturbing.

Question Defective Disc

I have a defective Blu-ray of Charlie Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS, so I wrote to Jon Mulvaney at Criterion asking him for help. He'll respond soon.

Has anyone ever had a defective Blu-ray from Criterion, and if so, when you exchange it for a better one, does it cost money or is it free?

Please respond; thank you.

Canoa: A Shameful Memory
A second strong vote for Canoa: A Shameful Memory. A fascinating look at mind control and mob violence, this film is based on a real event that happened near Puebla, Mexico. One of the more disturbing films that I own, and I have it categorized in my collection under (appropriately) Truly Disturbing Films heading.

I think it's a great blind buy if you're into intense films. Cynical and grim in its depiction of human behavior, I highly recommend it.

Haven't seen the others you listed, but am planning on picking up Kameradschaft in the next Criterion flash sale. (I'm not a big B & N fan).

It was a free replacement for me, They knew of the issue I was having with a certain title.

Eraserhead had an issue where one shot was totally blacked-out. They had a replacement program, so I was able to get a free replacement.

That must have been four years ago, but I'd be surprised if they wouldn't continue replacing those discs for customers.

Sure, there is some physical female nudity accompanied by a horrible (rape) scene portrayed by Katrin Cartlidge (RIP), but that's about it. There's nothing erotic about Naked whatsoever. It's brutal and in your face in such a way that inspired me to re-enact a scene from David Thewlis for an acting class I took a few years ago. I memorized 2 minutes of dialogue from one of the scenes he was in (involving doomsday, Nostradamus, and astrology). You can watch me act out this scene outside here if you want: A monologue of David Thewlis' "Johnny" from the Mike Leigh film "Naked" - YouTube

Naked is one of my favorite films of all time in terms of sheer raw acting. It's bleak as hell and incredibly dark from a humanistic standpoint. However, its fantastic Schadenfreude if you're into that. Basically, Johnny's character is one that most of us would appreciate we're not him.
After years of procrastinating, I finally bought and watched NAKED. Thewlis’ performance is a masterpiece of acting. Though he won at Cannes, he was not even nominated for an Oscar. This is one of the most grievous omissions ever. Pacino’s win was for career achievement, though deservedly so. The other four: Eastwood, Downey, Rea, and Washington were all pretty good, but they all pale in comparison to Thewlis. Oh yeah, the movie is great too. Kudos to Leigh, as always. And the other actors. I can’t even imagine what it must have been like to perform alongside Thewlis. His performance was one for the ages. Simply unbelievable.

"Achievement" award, heh. Pacino deserved the Oscar for that performance alone.

Certainly not a bad film by any means, just didn't really captivate me.

But I like Spirit of the Beehive, so who knows.

I might watch it again tonight, just to see if I feel something different the second time around.

I watched it last night and thought it was really, really good.

It's an extremely thought-provoking film; some of the dialogue is tremendously interesting...especially the scene with the night security guard.

Honestly though, it's the type of dark, seedy, depressing movie that I don't see myself wanting to watch more than a couple of times.

It made me feel unclean.

But I highly recommend that everyone see it at least once.

...David Thewlis gives a monster performance.

Yes, that "tremendously interesting" scene with the night watchman was brilliant... did you see my video? I memorized 2 min. of dialogue from that scene because it just blew me away. Almost 25 years later, Naked still blows me away to this day and I can't say the same thing for a lot of films in my movie library. Like Purplenoon said earlier, It's mind boggling to think that David Thewlis wasn't even nominated for a frickin' Academy award!

This is the first time I heard about this. Where is this blacked-out shot (approximate timestamp)? I need to check my copy.

I’ve had a few issues where I had to contact Criterion and they have handled things well.
Videodrome-bought new at MovieStop, no book. Sent a copy for free, I offered to pay.
My Own Private Idaho- discs were blanks, looked like the clear protector discs in CDR tower stacks. I bought it new from BN. They fixed it after providing receipts and photos. No big deal. Free
They would not fix my order of The Man Who Fell To Earth Scanovo case. I ordered it from CC. I received the case with art but the case had a
Barcode the size of a shipping label and a razor cut in it. Case was useless but the art was salvageable. Even with pictures, no go.
Recalls have been handled well.

Disc will say second Printing around the outer edge of disk beside the 89 minutes text. If not it has the error

So I started noticing with the Criterion Sale a couple items that are going OOP? 12 Angry Men, The Confession and State of Seige. I don't know if there are others even, but I can't find any info on this as I thought it would be here. Looks like the first page is maybe not up to date. I guess anyone with more info as I kind of wonder if there are more titles than this?

Of the three titles you mention, only The Confession is OOP (which happened last week). Criterion confirmed in an email to a member here that State of Siege is not affected, and there's been nothing posted anywhere I have seen about 12 Angry Men going OOP.

The B&N site is not very good. When a title is temporarily sold out (meaning, B&N is waiting for more stock), it is unavailable for order, unlike on Amazon.

Very few Criterion BD have gone out of print. Check this thread:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=257543

Although it is a bit misleading as Nashville, Thief and the Zatoichi set are available (newer editions).

Thanks for your help. I ask as yes 12 Angry Men is available on Amazon but not sold by Amazon and those 3 titles are not available on other websites....just seems a little odd I guess.

White Dog DVD from Criterion
When watching on my OPPO 103, menus appear in 4:3, then when pressing play or selecting a new supplement, it quickly stretches to full fill the 16:9 screen. Is that an error or issue? The movie plays fine, I can’t verify that any other DVD does this, but those I tried did not. It’s not a big deal but it just seems odd.
Quickly tested some Simpsons, futurama, transformers s1disc1, and disaster artist dvd, none of them do this.

Stock issues because of the sale. The way to see if a film is OOP to look at Criterion's own site.

Yep, checking the disc is the easiest first step. It's an issue that affected the first pressing--the scene goes black at 65 minutes and 54 seconds when it should flash white. More details in this post:

[Show spoiler]65 minutes and 54 seconds into the film, Henry touches The Lady in the Radiator and the screen is supposed to go completely white. However, on the Criterion blu-ray I received, the exact opposite happens--the screen goes completely black. Obviously, this totally changes the meaning of one of the film's pivotal moments.
All I did was e-mail Mulvaney, and he asked for the old disc (not the packaging) to be mailed back, with a note containing my address.

Naked came out in 1993. Those other five men were nominated for 1992 films.
