Okay bentvalve,

I was messing with you in my post, thinking someone else would tell you but I guess not.

Fear and Loathing was pretty much confirmed by Criterion for blu through the newsletter. So jump around if you want. Your dream has came true.

I just did this exact same thing, except because of tax in Ohio (SHIT!) it's $28.05. Still, not bad, because I was planning to blind buy it regardless (yes, I haven't seen this Seven Samurai yet).

Can anyone guess, given Criterion releases in the past, if the BBS set will contain each movie in a separate case, just sort of housed in a slipbox... or will it be a digipack fold-out-type thing?

Mine is without question, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" , its a bummer Criterion did not do the blu-ray so this is one movie where I have to have the SD Criterion version and the blu-ray version.

#2 is Seven Samurai, I recently bought the blu-ray but have not watched it yet. I am looking forward to watching this blu-ray because I hear its pretty good.
They really did a great job on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It has some of the best extras I've ever seen. I'm a big fan of Hunter Thompson.

My favorite Criterion DVD is Straw Dogs. A great DVD of one of my favorite movies.

Playtime (Criterion)

Director: Jacques Tati
Writer: Jacques Tati
Mains: Jacques Tati, Barbara Dennek, and Georges Montnant

What a remarkable brilliant comedy!

Synopsis
: Playtime is about Paris trying to adapt to a new age of technology while hosting is country with American Tourist that add fire to the mass confusion! During the film Monsieur Hulot is just trying to meet this business man but he has allot of trials and tribulations to get through before meeting this mystery man. In addition there are also side stories of many men and women that are completely lost in this new world.

My Take
: Even though im not screaming this is the best movie ever made i completely think that this movie is marvelous. The attention to detail and every shot and the amazing cinematography is Grand! This is truly eye candy! What strikes me the most is the era this film was made. How do you think of things like this!?!? This in fact was a very important thing having great sets and amazing cinematography because the lack of talking within the movie. I thought some of the shot was down right hilarious while others made me giggle. But most of all i respect and enjoyed the overall feel of the movie. It truly felt like a Stanley Kurbrick movie with the amazing shots and advance sets.

Conclusion
: Playtime is a great movie that one could love and enjoy the attention that was put into the movie. Even though its rather slow and require allot of your attention its still vary rewarding. The musical score is also very noticeable and very addicting. You have all types of comedies out there, dark, stupid, indirect, direct. Playtime offers what is rarely hard to accomplish and that's being Brilliant. Amazing movie that i think will get better through the ages.

Highly Recommended

CG, your mother and I have been talking (when we're not loving on each other), and well... we've decided to increase your weekly allowance. You've been a good kid this year and we think you deserve it.

Separate cardboard cases with a slipbox to hold them all... very similar to the John Cassavetes: Five Films and Eric Rohmer's "Six Moral Tales" DVD box sets.

So I guess my mom didn't tell you I never got allowance as a kid. So it's great Mr. CC gives me allowance at 22.

Got an email from Amazon that showed Paths of Glory blu for $22. After I ordered it, looked at other Criterion prices and Paths of Glory was at $30. Wasn't planning to buy it right away but couldn't pass up that price.

Saw a folded up sign behind the desk in the media section at the local Barnes and Noble, it said "Criterion Collection 50% off sale" in printed text then "11/1/10" was handwritten and circled under it. It was at the Snellville, GA Barnes and Noble if anyone here happens to visit that one.

How long does the BN sale usually last? Will it still be active when
America Lost and Found:The BBS Story comes out?

Does anybody's magic ball have an opinion on if the sale will still be on for Modern Times? I have it preordered for 27.99, but would really like to get it cheaper if possible.

Also, do Criterion titles have a history of being discounted over black friday?

I hope the sale runs through the release of Night of the Hunter (11/16). I REALLY want to grab that one along with Seven Samurai and Paths of Glory. I guess if I'm out of luck 2 out of 3 won't be bad.

3 silents on the 16th (Chaplin, Lang, and Keaton).

I'm prob going to pass on Chaplin unless I find some extra money. Will no doubt get Keaton, Night of the Hunter, and the BBS set in Nov, being some of my fav films. The Metropolis blu I will prob buy before the Chaplin too, so....

I can always wait until Dec to get Metropolis and Modern Times, since I won't be getting anything that month. But as of right now, Night of the Hunter, Sherlock Jr, and the BBS set are must buys for me.
