I expect the Criterion will be markedly improved.

At first glance, the it looks like a knight--upholder of peace in justice. There is a certain sect of them known to many movie-goers: the Jedi Knights. But if you squint your eyes and focus on the knight's arms and legs, they look a lot less like armor and more like the robotic limbs of C3PO. And he's in a desert--just like planet Tatooine. The book? Easily a reference to the Journal of the Whills, which was the working title for STAR WARS.

Unaltered OT confirmed!

I think this rumor comes from the 2017 new years clue, since there were a bunch of notes floating around and two flags that could be either the Cuban flag or the Puerto Rican flag (since they are the same pattern, the former with a red triangle blue stripes and the latter with a blue triangle and red stripes, which look identical in a B&W line drawing). The Buena Vista Social Club release is the assumed answer for the flag(s) clue, but the fact that there were two led to speculation that another release could be related.

No, he didn’t say that at all. Don’t jump to conclusions.

There’s a ton of Criterion releases I want, but I usually save them for birthday/Christmas lists with other pricier releases (sans something I really, really want like NOTLD). Still I thought I’d take advantage of the sale and picked up The Blob in-store from B&N. Came very close to also getting The Killers, which is near the top of my wishlist.

Not gonna lie though, even $20 seemed a bit much for The Blob’s release, which is damn-near barebones. That movie really needs some kind of documentary and location revisit (like Horror’s Hallowed Grounds), but all this has is two commentaries (from the old DVD), an image gallery and a trailer. It’s a nice release, but it deserved more.

A Blu-Ray from Janus Films is available for screenings so a Criterion release is inevitable.

Yeah I'd rebuy it for sure, I think the current release looks like garbage, very disappointing disc. I sold mine, so no problem slapping down a 20 for a better release.

I ended up just picking the two from Amazon since A Touch of Zen was out of stock at B&N. At first, I planned on getting The Samurai Trilogy but that was also out of stock at B&N and on Amazon, the price jumped back up to $49 from $31. *Sigh*, I will just have to wait until October to grab the Samurai Trilogy. Also picked up the region-free French Pathe release of Wooden Crosses(why hasn't Criterion released this yet on Blu-Ray for crying out loud?).

The Samurai Trilogy is one of my favorite Criterion releases. I love it. It's amazing to me how drawn in I get. I'll usually watch the whole series - all three films - in one evening.

How likely do you think it is that Criterion will release "Mona Lisa" and "The Long Good Friday" on Blu-ray? I have the old Criterion DVDs, and I have been debating whether to either upgrade to the Arrow Blu-rays or hold out for new releases from Criterion (which would, I hope, also add a few more special features).

The Arrow Blus look damn good and they were one of the reasons why I bought a region free player.

The Arrow releases look fantastic and both are approved by the respective DoP's. Especially for TLGF, I believe they made some specific shot corrections that the DoP wanted.

This can’t be reiterated enough. Instead of pining for titles that already have excellent releases, you can focus your attention on pining for titles with poor or no releases like those of us with regionless players.

Thanks! I'm just gonna order it and hope for the best. I was just a bit worried because I know digipacks tends to be very much hit and miss.

At the beginning of the sale I decided to only purchase two titles:
The Virgin Spring
Beyond the Hills
.

It wasn't a week later that I lost control and went back and picked up:
McCabe and Mrs. Miller
El Sur
They Live By Night
The Breaking Point
Midnight Cowboy
Sundays and Cybele
Moonrise
sex, lies, and videotape

And just now today, not being able to contain myself, I spent even more money that I don't have and purchased:
Dietrich and Von Sternberg in Hollywood
Seven Samurai
Kuroneko
House

I was going to wait until the next sale for that Dietrich set but i just couldn't do it, and since I was at it it only made since to pick up a few more.

My kids are upset now because we don't have enough grocery money. Oh well.
