I'm prob going to pass on Chaplin unless I find some extra money. Will no doubt get Keaton, Night of the Hunter, and the BBS set in Nov, being some of my fav films. The Metropolis blu I will prob buy before the Chaplin too, so....

I can always wait until Dec to get Metropolis and Modern Times, since I won't be getting anything that month. But as of right now, Night of the Hunter, Sherlock Jr, and the BBS set are must buys for me.
That's right...How could I forget Lang? Especially since I opted for the MoC version.

Oh and the new restored Metropolis is playing on TCM early Nov (I think the 7th), for anyone like me who will wait off until Dec to get it. You can watch the new version then.

No reason. I just am, because of money problems and 3 other releases that I will get Nov (BBS set, Night of the Hunter, Sherlock Jr) that will push Metropolis and Modern Times to Dec for me since I'm not getting any Dec releases. Why spend all that money on one month when I'm not getting Videodrome or Cronos, so push some titles to Dec.

Why is Seven Samurai so darn expensive? $36.49 is really insane.

I;d rather have these movies released by WB or Sony and reasonably priced then by Criterion and at these prices.

I won't buy it at this price point, and wait until it becomes affordable.
No disc
[Show spoiler]except any SW episode, of course
is worth this price.

I know it's 2 BDs, but still.

It the PQ and AQ great? The review on this site is very positive, whereas the review on HighDefDigest is not.

You can find it lower than $36.49. You just have to look around.

Here's my suggestion, then... don't buy it... ever... period. If you don't wanna support the companies that release these types of films, then don't bother. If you're strapped for cash, then I suggest getting a second job, or a first job with better pay.

If you're stingy with your money, then I suggest waiting for the Barnes & Noble 50%-off sale that is supposed to happen in November. The discount comes off the MSRP price of $49.95, so you'll be paying $24.97 plus tax... and, there are always plenty of coupons online to use, as well.

Here's an idea... don't trust reviews. Make your own decision. Reviews are subjective, as I've stated many times before... they're only the opinion of the said reviewer. Not all reviewers have the same set-up or idea of what they're even looking at, so I can't imagine you'd put too much faith in a review. Read many reviews online... this site and HDD aren't the only sites that have reviewed the "Seven Samurai" blu-ray. It's a 1954 film, and it's a known fact that Japanese films were never preserved all too well, so you can't be expecting things to look and sound like a modern film. If you love the film, just go ahead and buy it. You're not gonna be disappointed.

Well, if the B&N sale is on Nov. 1st or 9th, it should be $17.99 or so...

I felt it was awesome! Personally, there are other sites who tend to be unfavorable to a lot of older classic releases from smaller companies it seems. But to each their own. Always read several reviews instead of one to get a general idea not just one.

I'm sure someone else has posted this already in response to you (I'm a few days/pages behind) but, since I was in B&N this morning, I was able to ask one of the media employees directly.

She did not know right away and she was looking through all this paperwork, and then she said she could call the manager. I was thinking that was a great idea. So she did. The manager confirmed that the sale would start on November 2nd and run through (if I remember correcty) November 22. The BBS box set is not included, however, The Night of the Hunter and Modern Times are both part of the sale.

Quick question here. Would anyone know by any chance where is the closest B&N from Montreal, Quebec? FYI, montreal is right next to the US/Canada limit of state of NY.

I'm thinking about picking these up myself instead of shipping them. Shipping to Canada is quite expensive.

Thanks in advance guys

Go to B&N's site, see if you can do better than Burlington, Vermont.

mmmm Burlington. That's two hours away from me. Might be worth it. I'll go double check to see if it's the closest. Thanks TJS!
