EDIT
As pointed out below this came out in 2017. So disregard this post. Could this mean we might finally see The Lady Eve? There is a massive Preston Sturges box set coming out in France in December which oddly at Amazon France is All Regions. https://www.amazon.fr/Preston-Sturges-%C3%89dition-Collector-Blu-ray/dp/B01M0N2DBP/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 For those who can understand French: Quote:

Sometime in the last month, the rights to The Pianist in the US have reverted back to StudioCanal, as the Focus/Universal DVD is OOP.
And, Juliette Hochart of StudioCanal was recently at Criterion's office. So........................................ ![]() |

As of now, it seems nothing has come of that visit yet. Now an SC/Criterion agreement would be the best Christmas gift ever.

It's been said before but The Pianist would be the perfect release for Criterion, if a StudioCanal deal does come to fruition. |

Any news about Death in Venice or The Damned by Visconti?
If Ludwig was published before by Arrow can be also be released by CC in order to complete Visconti's German Trilogy? Any thoughts? |

Le Cercle Rouge and Ran(the new restoration) would be my top two on my wishlist if there is an SC deal. Though I'm going to get a region free player eventually if it kills me. Just have to tell me enough with all the excuses.

I just finished watching Sundays and Cybèle. Wow! What an incredible film! I found that it had many similar themes, along with a few plot devices, as I saw in another film that I watched this week:

Recently watched Fellini’s Il bidone on FilmStruck in an excellent-looking transfer. It had both the Janus and Criterion logos before the movie, but I don’t see it listed on Janus Films’s website. Googling around it looks like it’s available on Blu-ray elsewhere tho...
Any ideas if this may be coming? Wasn’t among Fellini’s best but a nice, more neorealist feel similar to I vitelloni, and also had some great location footage of Rome. |

On my second visit to Barnes & Noble this month, last night I picked up
Age of Innocence The American Friend It Happened One Night Only Angels Have Wings Wenders' Road Trilogy Wings of Desire and pre-ordered The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez, bringing my Criterion titles up to 201. Tomorrow I'll go back and pick up a few more including The Buena Vista Social Club His Girl Friday Moonrise and pre-order the new edition of The Tree of Life. Maybe a couple of others. I wish Criterion had more noirs and classic American westerns in its catalog. Noir westerns like Blood On the Moon (1948), Ride the Man Down (1952) and Peckinpah's Pat Garrett and Billy the KId would be nice. I wish they had more French films from the 1930s and 1940s, too. I noticed Criterion are replacing a couple more dual format releases soon. Anyone know why they are waiting so long on other titles or what makes them move to the 1 disc BD/standard case sooner than others.
I want to buy Il Sorpasso and I'd rather have a standard case because the dual format digipacks of this title have not held up so well on the shelves. Also can someone sell me on the Trilogy of Life. I'm not sure if it is a purchase I should make. Thanks Last edited by repulsed; 08-04-2018 at 07:29 PM. |
