It's definitely rumored, but there's no date nor any rumor for it being a Criterion release.

I sure wish I liked Ambersons more than I do I'm hyped for everything else though, including Bergman.

Fantastic month! I'm pretty much in for all the titles.

My girlfriend is also a huge Talking Heads fan, so I imagine she'll be pleased with the True Stories announcement...

No Chaplin and Lloyd again. With this type of treatment I'm glad that Criterion doesn't have its mitts on most if not all of the Keaton titles (to be fair, I am hoping the rumors about The Cameraman and Spite Marriage are true since I don't see WAC putting out those two any time soon). I'll have to see the reviews on Some Like It Hot before deciding if I want to upgrade from the MGM blu, but I will probably pick up The Magnificent Ambersons when it goes on sale.

It's an incredible month, perhaps Criterion's best single month lineup ever? I don't think that's hyperbole. Just the Bergman set alone would have been amazing, but Some Like it Hot, Chikamatsu and Ambersons are also must get for me as well. Thank goodness this all comes out during Criterion sale.

Criterion's page says Some Like it Hot is a "brand new 4K restoration", although I don't remember the blu-ray being particularly bad I'm sure this will be a nice upgrade.

I'm not a huge fan of "double dips" like this, I wouldn't do it but this is one of my favorite films - which means it will be difficult to resist (just like I did for Silence of the Lambs, but of course that one actually needed an upgrade desperately). With a "brand new 4K restoration" there is always the possibility of an eventual UHD, and that's the only reason I would even think twice.

I’m just happy when Criterion takes the opportunity to bring back one of Hward Suber’s classic commentaries from the LD days. They were really formative to my early, developing appreciation of film.

For some films it would be nice, not sure any of this months would really benefit much - even if several are from 4K restorations. There are quite a few candidates in their catalog though - and not just the obvious ones like Silence of the Lambs.

I don't care to re-buy a bunch of art-house films on UHD, but it would be nice if they started going it going forward and on certain 4K restorations if they utilized UHD it would be great.

The lack of Chaplin is frankly mind-boggling. I and I assume many others, were under the impression they had almost all the same titles Artificial Eye/Park Circus had and were releasing them. I don't know why they are sitting on them, but it's been 2-3 years now I think since the last. Hopefully The Circus or ANY Chaplin title is coming soon. Anyways, when you factor in the already known Bergman set, this may be one of the best months of releases in a very long time. I knew the Wilder double dip was coming, as it seems it's not a faithful Criterion announcement day without at least 1 double dip, but the Byrne release is a very nice surprise.

I'm certainly in for the Bergman set and Some Like It Hot. I'm not familiar with the others, though.

Could Criterion release Sunset Blvd or Tarkovksy’s Mirror at some point?

Paramount not wanting to give it to Criterion would probably be the reason why there’s a hold up. They’re extremely difficult in terms of choosing what films they give off to third-party distributors.

Then least release it themselves. Sitting on it is the frustrating part as its the biggest hole in the Hepburn library.

Same here, I watched the DVD again recently-and even though I'm a big Welles fan, I didn't like the film as much as I used to. I'll probably still get it for the extras and new transfer.

Pretty big though! I haven't seen True Stories since the 90s, that'll be fun to revisit. Interested in the CD as extra, that's pretty nice. If they would've included the entire Rome '80 concert in HD also I think I'd wet myself.

Never got into Some Like It Hot but I'm sure I'll check out this edition. Only one I haven't seen from here is the Mizoguchi, so that moves to the top of the buy list.

Some interesting titles and a lot of variety. Plus, the fact we are getting audio commentaries which they haven't done in a long time, input from the terrific Molly Haskell and a CD is worth mentioning. I mean, as far I know with True Stories this is the first Criterion release to include a CD, right?
I just have to say that the Some Like It Hot cover is truly awful.

Not because of Polanski but because the film is one of the staples of the Paramount back catalogue.

It should've been a box set from the start, since all the masters were ready and released elsewhere. Same with Lloyd.

The Paramount release already has good video quality and stacked bonus features. A Criterion would be a useless double dip to me.
