I haven't seen any substantiation to the rumor - just many hopefuls. As rumors go, could be WAC.

The announcements this month kinda bring everything full circle for me. A tip-off for A Story From Chikamatsu is what finally compelled me to stop being a lurker and post on this site, kinda cool it's coming in the Bergman box month.

Last night, in celebration of Roeg's 90th birthday I re-watched Walkabout and that film is so beautiful, poetic, and oddly still kinda relevant in these strange times. I encourage anybody to check it out if you haven't seen it.

Also, no offense to those who love these films, but next month I hope they announce After Hours and The Grand Budapest Hotel so people will finally shut up about them.

Forty Guns is fantastic. Curious, though, what is a "gothic western." I've never heard of that term.

The closest thing to Forty Guns in the western genre that I've seen is Johnny Guitar.

I hear "gothic" and think of all the comic-book type genre mash-ups like Jonah Hex, Ghost Rider, Priest, The Crow: Wicked Prayer, maybe Legion or Drive Angry. All totally worthy of the Criterion label.

In all due seriousness High Plains Drifter is a good call. I think HBO's made-for-TV film Purgatory would fit the bill too.

Did pick up and watch Dead Man on the last B&N sale. I think the argument can be made that it could be viewed as an afterlife allegory of some kind, and might thematically fit the genre.

You'd probably like Bone Tomahawk.

We are close to having all of the Orson Welles' feature-length films on Blu-ray. The only ones missing are Journey into Fear (even though he's uncredited) and Mr. Arkadin.

Presumably, Criterion's next Welles release will be an upgrade of the Arkadin DVD set but no clues for Journey into Fear. Pretty sure it's a WB film so perhaps Criterion will licence it at some point.

Grand Budapest is $5 in a Best Buy shipper. They're trying to getting rid of stock, so I'm expecting it to be announced soon.

That's more spaghetti Western-esque without being actually one.

The original soundtrack had 9 songs. The recent reissues have 12. Is there any indication what those extra tracks will be? Will it just be a combination of True Stories and Sounds from True Stories?

Also what a month. I want everything on that list. A Story From Chikamatsu and the Bergman set on at the top of the list. Though kind of mixed on Some Like it Hot. Granted Criterion will be a better release I'd rather they focus on films currently not available elsewhere in HD.

No idea about accuracy, but this is the soundtrack page for the film

It will probably be a combination of everything. Most of it will most likely be the versions of the songs as performed in the film by the actors and not the Talking Heads versions.

A couple of the “film” versions of those songs were released a b-sides to the singles that were released from True Stories.

Isn't Mr. Arkadin out in a French blu? Or did you mean Region A only?

I suspect it's that combination. Talking Heads True Stories album was 9 tracks, with some versions including an added remix of Wild Wild Life. Sounds From True Stories had 13 tracks. But who knows until we see it.

There's no US release and I think all the European releases (and perhaps the Japanese release also) are from the same Studio Canal master, which going by the review has the limitations of a dated source. But it is probably the best available release (UK BD locked to region B)

Oh wow, I just read the book and didn't realize there was a movie adaptation for it. I might have to grab this.
