He's been trying to get them to release -- actually re-release, since they did the director's cut on laserdisc -- "Texasville" for years. There is an HD version of the film, but it's the theatrical cut (likely for the obvious reasons), so I think it's unfortunately a lost cause.

It has to be I Wanna Hold Your Hand. Didn't Zemeckis have a phantom page?

Just kidding. No idea.

These are the two I immediately thought of. I think the Zemeckis film makes more sense, though it'd be nice if Criterion started releasing Herzog films (Burden of Dreams doesn't really count).

Yes, I remember seeing it a while ago and posting it here but was then corrected because he appeared in a special feature(can't remember which release, maybe The Breakfast Club.)

Any word on the possibility of Criterion upgrading La Ronde to HD? There's a region free UK blu-ray from Screenbound whose PQ easily trumps the C-DVD but seems to be barebones, just wondering whether to wait or plunge.

The Devils on FilmStruck is 108 minutes (the description incorrectly says 100 min), though I don’t believe it includes two infamous scenes that were cut. No CC branding when you press play.

Yeah, it might be a bit of time before these get released. Especially if they are going to try and release their Godzilla/kaiju titles next year, as I imagine that Curtis Tsui will be the one assigned to produce both projects.

(hell, maybe by the time they get around to releasing Police Story 1 & 2, Miramax's rights to part 3 will have expired.)

I second this wholeheartedly! Fast Times is one of my favorite films, and put it on Criterion and I am a happy cinephile! Hope this comes to fruition...

I was wondering what Criterion's plans were for the Godzilla flicks. I'm very excited for these movies getting the CC treatment! Will they go for a boxset, or release them individually, two or three at a time...?

Just out of curiosity, what brand/model is your region-free player?

I wonder if it is possible for Criterion to pick up The City of Lost Children or not? I was let down by the 20th anniversary Blu-Ray of that movie.

I watched They All Laughed recently and I absolutely loved it. I'd like to see Criterion or someone else release it on Blu, but I don't know how possible that is since HBO released it on DVD.

I believe Bogdanovich owns "They All Laughed" outright; the reason that he went bankrupt in the 1980's was that he bought the film back after the original distributor wasn't going to release it and distributed it himself.

This summer, UCLA's Billy Wilder Theater in Westwood had two programs running; one was a series of Ernst Lubitsch films, the other was a series of Bob Fosse films. Before each show, they would run silent still-photograph ads of all of the upcoming shows. Bogdanovich came out to watch "So This Is Paris", and sitting in the crowd, every time the ad for "Star 80" came up, I felt more and more awkward about it.
