I, myself, am impatient, so I might get that on Amazon, and then get another or so come the start of the sale.

The cashier did not have to override anything. She also let me use the same coupon, and she rang up each sale individually. I do not have my receipts anymore, but I remember buying just about every movie I did not currently have because of the price!

Here is my original post from July 13, after I scored big @ B&N. Warning: I do sound like a prick in the post, however, I was laughing at something someone posted in response to the many complaints some members had to the repetitive questions being asked about replacement cases and spine numbers. I also said I was bragging because other members were sick of people posting what they had picked up at the sale....so here goes:

"Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

I'm going to brag here because I got my CC BDs for $14.04 (except for Yojimbo/Sanjuro box & The Leopard) each with member discount, 50% off sale, and a coupon that was posted a few days ago letting the customer get $5 off a DVD or BD of $20 or more...the cashier rang each up individually...saved about $50 on the coupon use alone.

Discs purchased:

The Leopard
Yojimbo/Sanjuro box
Gimme Shelter
The Seventh Seal
For All Mankind
Monsoon Wedding
In the Realm of the Senses
Bottle Rocket (plastic case)
El Norte (digi)
The Last Metro (digi)
Everlasting Moments
Lola Montes
Mystery Train"

So $14.04 is what I paid for the single disc CCs, and I will try it again this time, unless the in-store policy has changed regarding the use of coupons.
I realize this has already been addressed, but I'm pretty sure that the coupons for the July sale were only supposed to work when the price after the 50% off and your membership discount was deducted was greater than $20. I know on 2 occasions an employee mentioned it to me. On one occasion, the employee simply did an override and scanned it (she actually said something along the lines of, "I'm not going to be that picky about a dollar difference"). The second time was of course when a different employee refused the coupon.

The second sentence seems to allow the use of the coupon, even with all of the discounts. No need for an override.

YES! Digi. That inside art is going to look awesome.

Note to Criterion: Now that your making the thicker digipaks in blu, don't be shy with them.

The wording in the coupon is pretty clear about the pricing. CCFIXX quoted the wording, and it is clear that the price BEFORE deductions should be the ORIGINAL B&N price of $20 or more. The 10% should not come off until the very end. The employees who told you otherwise were incorrect. The lady who rung me up in July was one of the media department managers whom I befriended during the previous month's B2G1 sale. I am assuming she would know the deal. She was just nice enough to allow me to use the same coupon on the 11 or 12 discs I purchased...all seperately.

While the wording is not 100% clear to everyone (even she had to re-read it a few times), it certainly did not need an override of any sort.

A response from Mr. Mulvaney once told me that the CC releases were coming out in the plastic cases because of their durability. The cardboard cases (while they are starting to grow on me after seeing The Seven Samurai) were only to be used for 2-disc releases. Breathless was an exception because of the book contained within. I could see a few other releases with thicker books getting the same treatment...Two Lane Blacktop, Vampyr, etc...

And pretty much everything that was/will be 2+-disc, since we still have yet to see a 2-disc plastic case, which is FINE with me. I think he was talking about the first wave of blu-rays though (those skinny cardboard cases that was new to Criterion). They have been doing thicker cardboard dvds for a while, which is now coming in the blu-ray releases (this, Breathless, Seven Samurai).

Cool to see 2 in Nov though (with the BBS set as well).

You do know what would happen if Criterion started releasing their 2-disc Blu rays in a plastic case, don't you?

Edit:
Make me mad? For different reasons than people crying about all 2-disc isn't the same. I just love the look and amount of artwork you get with the cardboard releases. Makes you feel you got a set for your money.

Well, I wrote to him when Breathless was shown in a cardboard case, and that was his response. So, I think (until something at Criterion changes) all 1-disc BDs will come in a plastic case...EXCEPT with exceptions like Breathless, which has a thicker book that will probably not fit in a CC standard case. In the future, however, I can see BDs which are 1-disc but contain a thick book (like the titles I mentioned in a prev. post) coming in a cardboard case. I'm sure you'd love that. Unfortunately, I don't see them using them more often just because.

If you mean "make you mad" because of the endless, "Does CC have a case replacement program for the new cardboard packaging?" questions, then yes, you are correct.

2 reasons it will make me mad. That is one of them (which alot of people will be too). #2 is I love the cardboard releases, so that would suck.

This was my experience as well. The key part of this is No Overide Needed. The first store I went to the cashier said she didn't think it would work, and I said fair enough, give it a try and she did and it worked, just like it works on the website. I did go to a store where they refused to accept and they called the store manager in and he allowed it's use, but did not have to overide. The store manager told me he was doing so out of good will and I thanked him and made all my subsequent purchases at the store that didn't use their personal interpretation of the wording. If you read the wording on some of the other coupons B&N issues, it's quite clear that the coupon does not apply to the sale price and if they wanted that to apply to the 5 dollar coupon, it would be easy to duplicate the wording of the other coupons.

One of the things I like about B&N (not sure if my location is in the majority or minority) is their willingness to let customers use multiple discounts on one item or transaction. They're very quick to let me use my membership, the stickered % off on the package and any coupon that is around at the time. I mean, it brings me back time and again.

I agree 100% with you. I wouldn't mind having a framed poster of the cover art even though I completely hated the movie.

Got to disagree with Pro-b's review. Salo is a personal favorite of mine so the graphic depictions of sex/violence didn't bother me. I just couldn't take the movie seriously (and I was really looking forward to seeing it). I knew it would be tough when I started laughing at Dafoe's on screen entrance. It just tried too hard to be disturbing/intelligent and ended up being the worse kind of pretentious.
