Right, a little confusing. I started doing the Flash Sales during the one. Didn't accumulate enough for the $50 Loyalty reward. I should've mentioned that this was my first time receiving the loyalty reward.

Received an email with the code for the $50.

Tried to use a $10 promo on my account plus the $50 Loyalty Reward to get three titles. When I clicked to complete the order, the site crashed. Went back into my cart to replace the order and only the $50 Loyalty Reward Points remained.

I went for:

A Hard Day's Night (upgrading from my ancient DVD)
Time Bandits (upgrading from my Criterion DVD)
Its A Mad Mad Mad Mad World

I also just got a $10 criterion gift certificate from Filmstruck, which made it just under $50. So hooray for that.

Done. I had to factor in shipping to Canada and money, so I managed to dwindle it down to:

The Age of Innocence, The Virgin Suicides, The New World and The Hero.

Was that a special offer, or is that something that all FilmStruck members should have received?

Based on the wording of the email, it appeared to have been sent because I signed up for a full year of FilmStruck and the Criterion channel. Not sure if it was for one and all.

I'm paying monthly, which may be the reason why I never received it.

Oof, sale date on the same day Sundance 2019 credentials and ticket packages went on sale. My poor wallet.

Why would you be going to Barnes and noble? This is on the criterion site.

Guessing he can't participate in the Flash sale b/c it's on a Tuesday (pretty much like always) and not Friday (?Payday). Also, no Flash sale has ever happened on Friday so not really a realistic option.

Now he has to resign himself to the next option and go to BN (which he really doesn't mind) when their sale starts to get the item he wants. I'd suggest once he know the sale date, he could increase his chances by calling the store and asking if they could reserve a copy/bring one into store for him to pick up.

I have no idea which is more accurate, but the Criterion looks better overall to me. These are significant differences though, and it would be pretty odd for the BFI to have fully tinted scenes for no apparent reason.
I saw it in the cinema last summer and it looked like the Criterion - there was definitely no tint like the BFI, which is bizarre given that the screening began with their logo

Was only going to get three to qualify for free shipping but ended up adding a couple blind buys.

The Killers
The Player
Lost in America
One-Eyed Jacks (blind buy)
The Friends of Eddie Coyle (blind buy)

$79.81 for six titles isn't the worst damage. If I'd had my $50 Loyalty Rewards going into this sale, I would've only purchased three titles max. Having to spend $60+ to get the Rewards, it was easier to justify spending $10 more for an additional title.

Up next: I have $320 in B&N Gift Cards patiently waiting for next month.

Got a few that were on my wish-list and Being John Malkovich I just discovered was on the Criterion collection, and since it's been a long time I've been wanting to watch it, I added it at the last moment. It went in backorder just when I was about to checkout, but the price remained at 50% off in my cart so it's fine, I can wait until Nov 7 when it comes back in stock for my order to ship out.

Being John Malkovich
Elevator to the Gallows
La dolce vita
For All Mankind
The Game

PSA: It would appear that Janus has lost the rights to El Norte. I would recommend picking it up as it is a great film and it may not be around much longer.

Thinking about Sisters as a blind buy.

How would y'all rank it among De Palma's catalogue?

Love Carrie and Scarface, but not a huge De Palma fan, so might not be for me if it's considered by most to be mid-to-lower tier quality for him.

...any thoughts?

Not a big fan of Carrie or Scarface myself, but I would put Sisters right near the top of his output. Terrific film. Very De Palma but also one of his more inspired takes on Hitchcock's styles.

Couldn't even finish it. I had a very hard time getting past Margot Kidder's accent and nothing else really pulled me in. I'll undoubtedly go back to it someday but I'm in no big hurry.

And for the sake of context, I generally like his less over-the-top thriller-y stuff...Obsession, Body Double, Blow Out, Dressed to Kill, The Fury...that kind of thing.
