I didn't see it mentioned (perhaps I am blind), but HBO is airing a doc called Becoming Cary Grant. I've seen a few snipets, and it look promising.

Maybe I'll just make it a Cary Grant weekend. The North by Northwest Doc, Becoming Cary Grant, and then a handful of films from Suspicion, Philadelphia Story, An Affair to Remember, Only Angels Have Wings, To Catch a Thief and The Bishop's Wife, all of which I have yet to watch on blu-ray.

Judy, Judy, Judy!

Oh Fark, I forgot to buy His Girl Friday during the Flash sale. Dummy me!

I was wondering if others are receiving their orders directly from Criterion in this condition? The absense of plastic wrap may be a pro environmental decision which I applaud. But the sticker residue is a real annoyance for me, and the reason I stopped buying from Best Buy years ago. Hoping this isnt a new practice at Criterion. Thanks.
Contact Criterion. They are awesome. They will probably ship you a replacement case and let you keep what you already have so you don't have to return the discs. They did this recently when I emailed them about a defective Tree Of Life digibox. Speaking of which, when they did their flash sale last Tuesday, they stated things would ship in approximately three days. They shipped my order on Wednesday and I received it Friday. THIS IS WHAT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE LOOKS LIKE!!! There's been a lot of trash talk about Shout Factory (all justified), and they could certainly learn a lot from how Criterion treats their customers and does business in general.

I received one item that was covered in dirt like it had been dug up out of the ground. It was strange cause all the other titles were clean and normal. I took the plastic off to get rid of that mess and the case and all of it's contents were flawless. This was my first order directly from them even though I've been buying Criterions for 10 to 15 years. Look forward to many more orders from their site.

Goo gone works great and doesn't stain anything. At least not anything I've used it on and I've taken quite a few stickers off of white (glossy or otherwise) slipcovers.

So does anyone know the official dates of the B&N Criterion Sale? I would imagine it begins October 30th or November 6th (usually it begins on a Tuesday).

Somewhere between those 2 dates, but I haven't been able to get anybody to tell me specifically. I called 3 of my usual stores and even the folks that normally have given out that information either couldn't or wouldn't.

Last year it started Nov 1 (Wed) and end the 30th (Thursday).
The summer sale changed start dates 3 times within a week of the original scheduled start so I've given up trying to outguess them anymore.

I've just seen my first few Rohmer films and I really hope he gets some Criterion BD love in the near future.

my designated Criterion shelves are officially packed. does not bode well for the upcoming B&N sale. unfortunately, there's still a LOT of shrinkwrap on these shelves, as well...

I know that quite a number of stores with media departments are completely converting their media section to make room for more toys and games. I'm curious to find out if there will even be stores that have physical product to purchase. There are three stores (relatively) close to me; the one I worked at has never had a media department, but one of the others is currently converting theirs. I have no idea about the third store, though. I guess we'll find out here pretty soon for what that will mean.

Steven Yeun's Top 10.

As a big fan of The Walking Dead (despite the recent mediocre seasons), this makes me happy to read.

Speaking of shelf space, is anyone else bummed that the Bergman set comes in tall oversized packaging? There's no way that thing will fit on my shelf

Oh... I guess I hadn't even thought about that, but yeah, that's not ideal. It will have to go on the bookshelf next to the Criterion Designs book.

What I'll probably do is toss the packaging and put the discs inside a binder.

With the shelf with the larger space, you could get a board to fit into the shelf. That way it will prop up the back row of titles a little bit and allow for some spine visibility. That way you can have two rows standing up.

Not me.

When it comes to packaging, I'm only ever concerned with being able to get the discs in and out without having to manhandle them.
