I picked up Dheepan and F For Fake tonight, along with the Arrow release of Deep Red at 50% off.
I’m nervous about Dheepan. ...but I’m going for it. [Show spoiler]

this last year I planned to and did buy a ton of books so it more than easily paid for itself and then I added this set of movies as well some years it might not i love real physical stores and am getting more and more upset about the internet taking everything over browsing on the internet just isn't the same as in store, so many things you'd never know existed just using amazon or the like and for some sorts of books it's nice to be able to pick out an ideally printed copy, etc. and when it comes to movies streaming is poor quality compared to physical media, wastes 80% of the bandwidth of the internet for no reason, title selection is poor since they have to pay constant rights to keep stuff in catalog, for disc rentals all you can do these days is mail order, which is way slower than just zipping down the local video store and it's kind nice to actually not just sit in front of screen for yet more hours, actually see real live people |

Does Criterion still have the theme sections for their films? On the old site they used to have themes such as "Horror", "German New Wave", "Technicolor", "Blue Christmas", "American independent" etc where you could read up on films in the collection from that genre/theme. On the new site, I did some clicking and ended up finding a "Midnight" movie section, but don't know how to get back there.
I really liked browsing the collection. It let me learn about some new films that I would potentially be interested in purchasing. |

Secret Sunshine- Jeon Do-yeon gives one of the best performances in the collection in this film which is typical for Dong and his actresses. The second half of the film leans pretty hard into religion but even as an Atheist it didn't put me off. As a whole, I'd rank it behind Poetry and Oasis but ahead of Peppermint Candy in terms of Lee Chang-dong's filmography. In The Mood For Love- A slow burn about two how two mature adults handle a betrayal. This is like a mix of Ozu (square frames within frames) and Malick (Doyle's cinematography here is top notch). I put it right behind Chungking Express at #2 for Wong Kar-Wai |

Secret Sunshine is terrific and the PQ is excellent. In the Mood For Love may be re-issued with the rumored WKW box set.

And then there's Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung -- and it's very difficult to describe the level the performances attain. One of my favorite films, flat out. |

Since others are mentioning a possible new release for the latter, it may be worth holding out, but I recently watched it for the first time after buying it last b&n sale and I considered it a perfect movie instantly. It is absolutely haunting.

I feel awfully sad knowing that FilmStruck would be shutting down soon.
![]() O' Lord, why do all good people and good things go first. ... Hopefully folks at Criterion work out a deal with someone else. ![]() |

Ok so I just added a bunch of Criterion’s and am thinking of getting more. I’ll likely get the Ingmar Bergman set, any others any would recommend?
Also is it just me or do the little booklets always have small dings to them? |
