So I finally sucked it up and watched Salo for the first time and it might take an eternity to fully process that. This was my feeling when Fine hit the screen...

It would really be wasteful, because doesn’t Woody Allen have it in his contract that no extras for his films can be produced or something?

Pretty much; he's very anti-bonus feature. The most "stacked" (and I use stacked in the sense in more than just a trailer) are "Blue Jasmine" and "Midnight in Paris" which are really just EPKs.

Yep, even a booklet would have to be approved by him.

I would like to see Pretty in Pink announced tomorrow. I prefer it to sixteen candles.

I’m thinking of doing a blind buy of The Tree of Life. Not sure though. Wonder what people here would say about it and would recommend it?

ugh I hope not, that would mean yet even more time for UHD West Side story, we don't need yet another blu-ray we need some UHD, they have 4k masters ready and done for so many of these it's ridiculous they just keep them in house for theatrical re-release only or for streaming or digital download garbage only, I mean the whole point of 4k is best of the best, so to make so many of them only streaming or download is ridiculous

I saw it and felt it was one of the best movies ever made. (His "New World" is also one of the best as well.)

yeah, this is one of those where forget complaing about no UHD, it's utterly absurd it's never gotten better than DVD! I don't get how some of these all-time classic, best known titles of all time still have no decent home release at all. And then they give other stuff 100th new re-release or there are hundreds of filsm on blu-ray that I've never even ever heard of and yet somehow they can manage to make a profit so enough with the excuses. I was stunned when for the Fathom event theatrical re-release the other year for this one they announced the new anniversary release was for streaming/digital download sale only! Come on already.

Sixteen already has a blu, so this should get way priority.

Yeah, we really need an HD release of this, which is Kirk's personal favorite movie out of all the ones he made. Beautiful film.

There is a region-free German release. I have it, but it's still in my large unwatched pile.

I want to buy Berlin Alexanderplatz so bad, I can almost taste it.

But something keeps holding me back.

$62 for a 15 hour German television series on dvd...I can’t find the strength.

But still I want it, no matter how wrong it is.

It reminds me of the first time I tried to buy a copy of Penthouse when I was 13.

I wanted that Penthouse so bad—maybe more than i’ve ever wanted anything in my life. But I couldn’t face the look on the face of the old lady who worked the register at Tom’s Market.

I let my shame get the best of me.

...I stuffed the magazine in the back of my pants and walked out.

I’d recommend you head to your nearest B&N, grab BA, stuff it down your pants, & go home and watch it immediately. It’s that good. Then read the book. That’s even better. Kudos to the author & to Fassbinder for even attempting to film it. It’s one of my first Criterion purchases, and one I’ve never regretted. $62.50? A pittance for a masterpiece. Right up there with the Apu trilogy.

The fact that there is a BD available:

Region B locked UK/German for $60 (as low as $35) -- yes there is an entry fee of a region free player

Region A Japanese set for $160 which the one review I can find was not kind.

or the continued rumor of it might be coming to Criterion BD for awhile opposed to those rumors that say it's not?

I've had Phoenix in my hands three times in the past month, but something else has ended up in my blu-ray player. I really need to watch this.

Clearing out a massive DVR queue, and a Criterion to-watch stack is some serious work.

I've been watching a lot of Montgomery Clift films, of late. The Young Lions (with Brando and Dean Martin) I finished today. The Misfits. Judgment at Nuremberg again. Suddenly, Last Summer is next. But there's one film I'm puzzled by-A Place in the Sun. This hasn't received a blu-ray release anywhere in the world.

I'd love to see Criterion release this.

Along with the BRD trilogy set, the best release Criterion has done. Buy it now!
