Maybe not TCM/Warners, but this sentence makes it sound like old Hollywood stuff will still be available.

They also stated:

Our library will also be available through WarnerMedia’s new consumer platform when it launches late next year, so once both services are live, Criterion fans will have even more ways to find the films they love.

Criterion is launching their own streaming service in Spring 2019 with all of the curation/spotlights from FilmStruck!!!
I just signed up for a charter membership. $89.99 a year. Not bad at all.

Sounds like they will still have WB content.

In the spring of 2019, Criterion Channel will launch as a standalone service. That will include a selection of films from the Warner Bros. archive “in what will be a rich and curated experience,” WarnerMedia and Criterion said.

Anyone have any idea as to whether this new Channel will be available outside of the US (specifically, Canada)?

Bad news. Variety edited the article. The same sentence now reads:

Quote:

Not a certainty it won't, but clearly they just assumed as opposed to having any new information.

I'm hoping it comes as a box set in time for one of the B&N sales next year.

In their press release they stated they’re hoping for Canada too.

Now will this Criterion channel only have the special feature videos they mentioned? Or will it have a selection of their film library too - but specifically curated lists of films? This may be a dumb question, but as a Canadian, I haven’t been able to access FilmStruck and am not aware of what the service particularly offered. I would hate for it to be just the video essays etc. and you would still need to find other legal ways of acquiring the films mentioned.

Okay, it just got real...

I pulled the trigger and ordered Ingmar Bergman's Cinema from Amazon (since the total comes to two dollars cheaper than B&N). I couldn't turn down that price.

I'm headed to the used movie store down the street in a few minutes to see if I can get some of that cash back by selling off my stand-alone Bergman Blu-rays.

Really want to sign up for the new Criterion Channel but I'm afraid I'll have the same problem I always had with FilmStruck: none of the devices connected to my TV have the app.

The bigger problem is that they likely don’t have streaming rights to all the movies in their collection, which will really limit the appeal.

Just sign up anyways. You do not enter payment info yet and can choose to not follow through if the availability doesn't work for you. This way you lock in the better rate and benefits.

Can't you download the app to the device? If not, an Amazon Fire Stick can be purchased for less than $30.
