I actually hadn't heard of her until this thread. Though given my almost non-existent knowledge of Indian cinema, that's probably not surprising.

Unless we are talking about looks of course, then it's no contest. Gong Li was stunning in her 20's and 30's. She still looks good now, but back then she was one of most attractive actresses, hands down.

As for JC, Faces and M+M are his weakest prime era films to me.

Uh, what? FACES is "weak"? Please explain that. I consider it to be Cassavetes' crowning achievement, by a fairly substantial margin, as well as one of the most impressive, insightful and thought-provoking American films of all time. What's wrong with it exactly?

I didn't say it was 'weak'. Just his weakest along with M+M, but you are correct, it's better than Shadows.

Oh, so SHADOWS is nothing special now? I'd like to see your ranking of his films, if you wouldn't mind. I'm oddly fascinated, for some bizarre reason. It must be this cognac.

What is the likelihood of Lionsgate releasing the remastered StudioCanal BD of The Third Man?

Smita Patil was one of the queens of Indian arthouse cinema in the 70's and 80's. She was renowned for her immense natural talent, exuding both simmering intensity and raw sensuality. She sadly died very young (31 years) owing to childbirth complications.

It's been more than 3 years since the region-free UK release is out, so I'd think next to none.

Absolutely. The special features are excellent, and I've seen them several times already - like a mini film school class. The video quality is also better, as most people say.
