How is "Last Year at Marienbad"? One of the titles I don't have/haven't seen... I just placed an order online with the sale (I get lots of bonus points for my credit card through Barnes and Noble online) but didn't include this one. Is it worth picking up? What are the chances I get a copy with the plastic case in store?

It's definitely a love or hate film, so I wouldn't recommend a blind buy. I did blind buy it, however. It wasn't what I was expecting it, but I liked it a lot. I would say I appreciate it more than I like it, though. They gave me a plastic case back in July. I have no idea what they would give you now.

Come on, Criterion. Give us a Blu-ray transfer of Hiroshima Mon Amour.

A little help please. I am debating between two of the following:

Lola Montes
Everlasting Moments
El Norte
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence

Thank you.

Oh, and anybody know why the 3 von Sternberg Silents are not part of the sale?

Depends what you are into...but for me it would be:

El Norte
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence
-------
The main thing I wanted from this sale was the 3 Silent Classics by Josef Von Sternberg (and Ozu’s “Story of Floating Weeds/Floating Weeds”) but oh well, hopefully they fix it in few days.

I used the B&N AAA link for 10% off and ended up getting:

Eclipse Series 22 – Presenting Sacha Guitry
Eclipse Series 24 – The Actuality Dramas of Allan King
Crumb
La Ronde
Le Plaisir
Louie Bluie
Thin Red Line
Early Summer
Night Train to Munich

Aside from the Von Sternberg, the other ones I probably may get near the end is “Modern Times” (if the sale lasts through Nov. 22nd, will purchase this on release date since I don't want any pre-orders holding up my B&N order) and I’m still debating on Eclipse Series 1: Early Bergman which I still haven’t bought yet. Mainly because I still have a lot of Bergman that I still have yet to watch...so "Sawdust and Tinsel" and "The Magician" and "Early Bergman" will have to wait...

I'm trying to stick to a strict budget as I still have to plan for Christmas shopping. Hehe....

Arrow Most B&N sale prices are live!

I am making my cart for the sale now!

I will have to wait for the 20th to formally order. I will be getting the Blu-rays from August to November 16th, and blind-buying the JvS box set. I am always terrified that this will be the last 50% off sale

Made my order:
-Paths of Glory
-Thin Red Line
-Modern Times
-Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence
-Night of The Hunter
-House

All Blu of course. I'm up to date with everything else, but bummed that the BBS collection didn't get the discount!

Can anyone give me advice if I should include "Charade", "House" and "Antichrist" into my order?
So far I haven't seen any of these films and I'm not sure whether I should order them or not.

Charade is a "must buy" IMHO. The other two shouldnt be blind buys, watch before you get due to replay value.

I don't think you can go wrong with Charade.

House and Antichrist can be polarizing (especially Antichrist, which people seem to either love or hate), so you probably want to at least read up on them.

Seems we all agree on the Oshima film.

I really enjoyed Everlasting Moments myself...

"3 Silents" should be part of the sale...I had my local store order me a copy.

Hausu is good but I don't think it's worthy of repeat viewings (unless viewed with a large audience which elevates the experience).

My choice would be Everlasting Moments and El Norte, although you can't go wrong with Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence either in my oinion.

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and Charade are waiting for me at their store for later...I had them hold copies for me.

3 Silents on order to be sent to store...wonder how long that will take?

Every day. I'm a big Jarmusch fan, though. Really, really love the mood and dialouge of his films.

Those were my sentiments too, that is why I just rented it. I was going to order it after the viewing from B&N, but changed my mind. Did place 2 orders this morning. Finally forked out the money for the Cassavetas set. My other order was for the preorders. Don't forget folks, if you have any preorders in your order, the whole order does not ship until those are released, hence that second order. Sometimes, they are sold out of the stuff that was in-stock when you ordered it if you have to wait, so be careful.

Edit: BTW, I couldn't get any of the coupons to work, but the Library store took the 10% off fine..
