All of the Dual-Format releases are staying in the OP.

I was just curious if folks wanted them spiked out or not.

Personally, whatever works best & easiest for you sir. I have no preference.

Thanks for your work on this!

I agree. I had high hopes for Sabrina, being Wilder and Samuel Taylor but it looked old beyond its years (one of those 50's films that you could swear was filmed in the 40's). Bogart is absolutely terrible in it. He looks bored throughout and I wouldn't dare call his line delivery "acting".

Grant is the only mature leading man opposite Hepburn that you can actually believe she'd fall for. He was concerned about his character appearing too lecherous going after Hepburn. The script was rewritten to have her take the initiative.

I'm a huge fan of Wilder and Bill Holden, and have become a fan of Hepburn's over the last decade or so.

Despite that, and having owned it for years now, I still can't seem to ever work up the actual enthusiasm to watch it. Even though it's a Billy Wilder film I'd be experiencing for the first time, I still can't get over the hump and it's precisely because I've always found the idea of an ingenue aged Hepburn falling in love with a 50ish Bogart utterly absurd.

A similarly aged Cary Grant, however, I can easily picture.

It's interesting that the remake emulated the original too closely with stiff and awkward HF (a rom com at that point in his life was not his strong suit) as a Bogart sub rather than going for an original intended Cary Grant-esque figure.

While he wouldn't have been suave, I could see Bridges being able to play cold and then warm and charming. Other than that though, I'm at a loss to come up with a Cary Grant-like figure from that generation.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks Sabrina is one of the most charming romantic comedies ever, one of Wilder's three best films, and Bogart's the best performance in it.

I love Sabrina. Bogart was perfect for the role, and it's hard not to fall in love with Audrey after watching it.

I ordered The Magnificent Ambersons from Barnes and Noble just now.

Also, when my sister-in-law asked me to send some Christmas gift ideas, I mentioned Forty Guns and True Stories. I may get one of them, I may get both of them, or I may just get a lump of coal.

Get ready to stone me, but I prefer the remake with Harrison Ford. I own both, but Ford's version is only available on DVD.

Sabrina’s a very good film, has moments of genuine pathos, which is lacking is most rom com films for the last 20 yrs. Bogart is fine in it, it’s just an unusual role for him. However, it is nowhere close to Wilder’s best though.

I emailed Criterion about any Godzilla news and they said they haven't started production on it yet. From that reply, it sounds like they actually do plan on releasing it, but from the sounds of it, it won't be released anytime soon. Who knows.

I found this as a thrift shop:

(Yeah, just a DVD, but I wasn't going to leave it behind for a dollar! If anything, I'll probably get my money's worth from the booklet alone.)

On the back, it says it's a companion piece to Yojimbo. Any knowledge of that one required to enjoy this one?

As related as A Fistful of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More...if that comparison helps at all.

Shorter answer. No, though it's a companion film it's not required viewing.

I'm sure Cary Grant would be good in the role, but he seems kind of obvious. You can watch the movie now and imagine exactly what he would do anyway. Bogart playing a part like that is what makes the movie unique -- though, if you don't enjoy what he's doing, I can see how it would sour the movie. I really enjoy him in the part, although what I really wish is that somebody had taken his great talent for quick dialogue and put him in a real screwball comedy.

Sabrina has so many beautiful moments. I'll cherish my memories of seeing it for the first time for a long time to come. It isn't my favourite Audrey film, but it is a great one. Furthermore, I have more interest in Billy's romcoms than his more highly considered work such as Sunset Blvd. and Double Indemnity. I'll def rewatch his romcoms, but Sunset and Double are movies I've had little desire to revisit since seeing them for the first time.

Nun's are married to Jesus, not God, if I recall correctly. Not as old as God, but 2000 years old is still a record right?

I picked up a used copy of Criterion’s The Blob off eBay only to find that it wouldn’t load up. I’m in the UK but region free and have never had any issues with any Criterion titles. Has anyone else ever had trouble with this BD?

I'd use the term "sequel", but whatever.

Also, for whatever it's worth, Yojimbo is the superior film of the two.
