Explain why. Assuming you had no knowledge of the connection between the two, what exactly do you think would be lost if someone watched Sanjuro first?

Furthermore, as I recall, Audrey asked for Astaire specifically when it came time to make Funny Face. Clearly she had no problem with the age difference. She was just plain excited to dance with someone of Astaire's calibre.
I for one don't get the age gap thing period. They're all adults, right?

Most men (until the day they die) will find younger women attractive.

I just watched Yi Yi for the third time after buying it back during the current sale.

I want very badly to like this picture more than I do.

But I had the same reaction to it that I had the last time I saw it.

The first 45 minutes or so are great and i’m thinking to myself, “wait...why didn’t I like this more the last time?

Then at about the halfway point I start to get a little restless and realize that there’s still an hour and a half to go.

By the time the last half hour rolls around, i’m just ready for it to be over.

The little kid makes his speech at the funeral and I’m still not completely sure what it was all about and what the underlying theme/message is supposed to be.

It’s a good picture... but the brilliance eludes me.

I e-mailed Jon Mulvaney a few days ago regarding Dual-Format releases, specifically those titles only available in that format.

Here was his response.

Hello Scott,

I hope this finds you well. The re-releases you mention are for packaging only, not for content upgrades. As we run out of the dual-format stock we will be re-releasing the previously released dual-format releases as stand alone DVDs and Blu-rays. Please stay tuned.

All best,
Jon Mulvaney

I'd like to know why too.

But I think I'll trust the word of MifuneFan here since he is obviously, well, a diehard Mifune fan.

Huge age differences sorta come with the territory on things of this vintage (pre-1970), so I mostly just sort of laugh and shake my head when I see them.

Anyway, Audrey!! I still haven't watched How To Steal a Million or Two For the Road. I should probably do so at some point. I think I still have the DVDs lying around somewhere.
Audrey Hepburn was often cast against actors 20 to 30 years older than herself : Bogart, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, ...in the first few years of her Hollywood career, the only actors she worked with even close to her age were William Holden and Tony Perkins. By the 60s, she was getting co-stars more her contemporary

I did it. Bought 5 more before the 50% sale ended, which brought my total from 1 to 6.

3 of these were must buys as they are American classics (The Tree of Life, The Breakfast Club and Midnight Cowboy).

Here are the titles I bought before the sale ended.

Is it true that the Criterion version of Breakfast Club has a lower bit rate than the 30th Anniversary Edition?

The Criterion release was a brand-new remaster of the original 35mm camera negatives at 4K resolution, though it doesn't improve much on the 30th anniversary edition as that was also remastered at 4k. The bit rate comparison is negligible as it wouldn't make a sizable difference in viewing quality at 26mbps vs 32mbps.

But I double dipped on this one since I had already bought the 30th anniversary edition mainly because of the supplements (including the brand new interviews with the cast members, as well as 52 min. of deleted and extended scenes only available on the Criterion release). And also, well, I can sell my 30th anniversary blu-ray and keep the Criterion one, as Criterions hold value over time.

In her first American role Hepburn was paired with Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday. Peck was only 13 years her senior.

Correct, and as I said in the post, it's largely the writing that bugs me so much with Funny Face since I actually enjoy Roman Holiday/Sabrina very much.

So Pandora's Box did have the Criterion and Janus logo but I couldn't tell if it was the BFI restoration so much talked about since it had no information beforehand on what the restoration source was. This was my first time watching so I'm not familiar with the DVD print source. Though hopefully, this does see a 2019 release

I re-watched Cries and Whispers and Tokyo Story recently.

1. Hot damn is the Cries and Whispers Blu-ray a TOTAL KNOCKOUT.

2. Holy shit, both of these movies do a good job of showing how you can love your family members and not stand their guts at the same time.

Have you seen Autumn Sonata? I felt it had more punch than Cries & Whispers.

Worth asking: which blu-ray did you watch for C&W? stand-alone or bergman set?
