Why did you use an ellipse there?

Grammatically speaking, it makes no sense.

In fact, it seems that most major studios have been reluctant to get their '70s titles out on BD, aside from the obvious stuff (award winners, box office successes, etc.).
I have to disagree here, Warner has been pretty good about getting 70's content out there on blu, and not just the award winners/box-office successes. Off the top of my head, they have released: NIGHT MOVES, PERFORMANCE, THE BOY FRIEND, THE WIND AND THE LION, BIG WEDNESDAY, WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH, THE YAKUZA all good, solid, interesting films that did not perform well at the box office, but have become well-regarded over the years. Now if you want to talk about Paramount...

Yeah, he's only won 3 Oscars. I guess they should've given him 4.

Warner, like every other studio, has released some of their '70s content. (I bought Performance, Night Moves and The Yakuza and was shocked they were released.) However, there's an alarming amount of important and highly regarded Warner movies from that decade that have not received the BD treatment yet: The Devils, Straight Time, Klute, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, O Lucky Man!, Blume in Love and a whole lot of titles from the Warner Archive DVD selection, e.g. Dusty and Sweets McGee, Lepke, The Todd Killings, etc.

Yes, I'm grateful for Warner (Warner Archive, more pointedly) for the '70s films that have been issued, but I'm saying that with Criterion picking through Warner's library now there shouldn't be as many great films from that oddly neglected period that have yet to be treated properly. In fact, Criterion has already given us several of Warner's '70s output already (Badlands, The In-Laws, Barry Lyndon, etc.), and that's a very good sign indeed.

Sadly, it all comes down to money in the end. It is notable that that this company created "Warner Archive Collection", so I guess they tried to make an attempt to release more obscure, older films in that offshoot series. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Archive_Collection
Oh, it always comes down to money.

I think the "Warner Archive Collection" has done a pretty decent job of releasing catalog titles (after all, isn't that why the "Collection" was created ?)

I just think that now that Criterion is releasing Warner titles, they could do a more prolific job of it then they've been doing, especially referring to popular big time (big selling) directors like Scorsese.

I think stuff like "Who's That Knocking at My Door" and "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" would hardly be a monetary risk for Criterion to release.

So, I'm not inferring that The "Warner Archive Collection" hasn't been quite prolific in their catalog releases, I am just of the opinion that Warner titles could definitely be much more well represented by Criterion than they are.

Sorry to get off topic, but is blu-ray.com's blu-ray search bar not working for anyone else? I have not been able to search for blu-rays since early yesterday.

If it's not working for others, I wonder if this is another perk, like price-tracking, that is being taken away.

Displaying results from United States

Sorry, your search for spartacus didn't return any results. Try searching for another term or try to simplify the search.

Examples
If you want to search for "Batman: Gotham Knight", search for just "batman".
If you want to search for "Prison Break: Season One", search for just "prison".
You can also search for just a part of the name, if you are searching for "Apocalypto", you can just type "apoc".
Looks like a database connectivity issue. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon.

Even if your argument had merit (that a performer's Oscar tally takes precedent over the strength of their work that particular year), it's totally spurious in this case because DDL hadn't yet won for There Will be Blood or Lincoln.

So had they (rightfully) awarded DDL, they could either ignore his work in Lincoln or retroactively recant his win for Gangs of New York...whichever works best in your universe.

Thank-you. I use the search function all the time.

”Nipper.....Jerry The Nipper.”

I’m finishing up another Cary Grant film, Director Leo McCarey’s The Awful Truth. It’s a lot of fun! Cary really gets a chance to show his gift for physical comedy in this one. He and soon-to-be ex wife Irene Dunne do all they can to sabotage each other’s “rebound relationship” before the divorce is finalized in 90 days, with hilarious results. When Dunne shows up as Grant’s “sister” Lola towards the end of the film, Grant’s uncomfortable facial expressions are priceless as Dunne “drinks” her way through meeting his wealthy future in laws. She’s a revelation. Ralph Bellamy is great, and Asta (The Thin Man, Bringing Up Baby) is a riot. McCarey earned a well-deserved Oscar as Best Actor.

Criterion can keep the Cary Grant screwball comedies coming. This one is going into my collection, too. Give me the aforementioned Bringing Up Baby and the black comedy Arsenic and Old Lace, please!

I enjoyed reading your thoughts! I just picked this one up, love Cary Grant. I'm looking forward to watching it soon. I too would be thrilled to see Bringing Up Baby get a nice Criterion release, it's one of my favorites.

I’m a real big Cary Grant fan, too, and becoming a bigger one seemingly by the day as I knock off one film after another from my “yet to see” list. TCM has been playing a lot of his movies of late, so my DVR has been working overtime. I’m looking to complete another movie teaming the talents of Grant, Irene Dunne and Leo McCarey (though he produces, not directs this one), My Favorite Wife, and then one with Myrna Loy (who I absolutely love!), Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, by the morning. After that, it’s Gunga Din With Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Joan Fontaine, She Done Him Wrong, a pre-Code entrant early in his career (1934) with Mae West, Room For One More With Betsy Drake, Blonde Venus, from the Criterion box set showcasing the films Marlene Dietrich and Josef von Sternberg did together after coming to Hollywood, and Holiday, with Kate Hepburn and Lew Ayres. Lastly, I’m going to re-watch The Philadelphia Story On Criterion blu-Ray, as well as Only Angels Have Wings, and check out An Affair to Remember, To Catch a Thief and Suspicion from my collection.

If all goes well, that should take me to the beginning of next week.
