It was enjoyable but the whole thing with the one girl going into the cop's apartment was kind of creepy and the cop not being pissed of was kinda surprising.
I'd recommend watching the "sort of" sequel, Fallen Angels, which is available on Blu-ray in a nice edition from Kino.

Also should have posted earlier but I'm getting #283 Akira. Don't think many care about LaserDiscs anymore but who cares anyway and its probably not in anyone's collection.
I used to own that LD. I still remember that it cost $124.99 () and they accidentally misspelled "manga" as "magna" throughout all the on-disc supplements. It's nice to have if you favor the old English dub (the DVD and Blu-ray have a different English dub).

Decided to order these three Blu-ray from the sale at $19 each just had to

Hausu, Monsoon Weeding & The Last Emperor.

Hausu & Monsoon Wedding are $38 each here in Canada. Been thinking about getting The Last Emperor for a while and at $19 I just could not refuse it

I'm really tempted to buy The Leopard but have never actually watched the film before. The reviews sound like I would really enjoy it, but thought I would ask what the general consensus is. Is it worth buying for 25 dollars?

I'll have to find that then. Thanks for the mention

I will have all the US releases (#283, #151, VHS, BD (with booklet and slipcover), Pioneer tin I think unless it made to beta and CED. I find the old dub nostalgic and wish I had gotten possibly the UK release that had both the Pioneer DVD Dub and the old Streamline dub

I understand your pain. I, too, find it difficult jumping back and forth from the Sales thread to this thread and back again just to keep up with everyone's "haul," as they like to call it. An added bonus, though, is when we get the same post from the same user in both threads!!! That's almost like a "goocher" in Stand By Me. On top of all of that, I'm then going to skip on over to the DVDTalk forums so I can read up on what everyone has bought over there. Alas, the people over there seem to only be posting in the relevant Sales thread.

However, someone had mean things to say to me over at DVDTalk, and that just upset me the most. Please read and enjoy.

CC
lol.

Anything I say gets the "Ol' CG" label when once again, THERE IS ALREADY AN F'N THREAD FOR YOUR LISTS PEOPLE! So unless your new here, stop acting like it's Ol' CG and have some sense. A thread to post your lists has been made. Hmmmmm, that's hard to figure out.

Show me the thread for Criterion Newsletter posts and I'll take that there. Or the CG/CC hour thread. BUT THERE IS A B&N THREAD. Do anyone need a link? Like CC said, some of you post your lists in this thread and the B&N thread. So you know where it's at, plus you need to show us twice what you got?

I know CriterionForum doesn't suck each other's hauls off. Facebook does. So what does that say about this forum?

Yeah, look what I bought:

The rare rare rare new releases that you prob can't get anywhere, that's why I posted them. How cool? Hope someone sees my lists and high fives are in order. I might have to post it in the other thread too. I have to show people I just bought the new Seven Samurai. OH YEAH! OH YEAH! Too bad others have taken pics of the Seven Samurai case like it's new or something, because I would of.

What? Can't be funny? The thing I quoted was 100% funny. Never heard that before.

Especially when they don't know that info is out there. They JUMP RIGHT IN to the end of the discussion....

2.) Posts that speculate what the next monthly announcement will be

3.) Posts that try and guess the newsletter clues

4.) Posts that list our purchases

5.) Posts that list our want-lists

6.) Posts that are rude, sarcastic and pointless to other members

7.) Posts about CC and CG's love child

8.) Posts about CC's mother

9.) Sarcastic repeats of the questions mentioned in #1 from people who know the answers already

10.) posts that bash the same 3 directors

11.) posts that praise the same 3 directors

12.) defensive "why me?" posts

Are there any more? If we take all of this away, what are we left with? The same info you can find on criterion.com. And what fun is that????
That sums up the situation beautifully. I am a daily skimmer of this thread, but an infrequent contributor, because my time is very limited. I enjoy this thread for it's rambling freewheeling nature... although I do find that, as an 'outsider' from a place where B&N stores don't exist, the endless coupon scheming doesn't interest me and I skim over those posts very lightly.

Let's face it - expecting to find in-depth discussion of movies on here is a bit like trying to find the proverbial needle in the haystack - even though it is to be found if you scan through everything.

I find it amusing that Mr CG is acting the self-appointed arbitrator of what is appropriate for the thread, when I think if one looked at his vast contribution you would see innumerable back-slapping one-liners with his mates and how life is in Kentucky and whatever else.... I'm not meaning to be mean - I just think it's all part of the wonderful mix - the mods here have seen fit to let this thing ramble on, so why not let it go...

By the way, here's what I want to get from the sale (online):
Antoine Doinel box
The Thin Red Line
Breathless
Solaris
Ace in the Hole
Night and the City

I wish Criterion had more noir in the collection...

Ugh, that B&N sale is nuts! Even shipping to me up in Canada I saved about $15/disc. I have 14 Criterion films on the way now.

Didn't I make sure to post TWICE that I wasn't and I don't care what people posts? Didn't I? Isn't the reason why I am talking about this, is because there is a THREAD FOR THE B&N SALE.

But whatever. Post the same stuff in 2 forums.

This makes it 3 times. I really wish you'd stop clogging up the thread w/ useless posts of control-freakism.
