I think the artwork on the Police Story slipbox is fine. At least it's not as bad as the fried egg on the Before Trilogy slipbox.

I'm sure you will like it. It's a short, tense and frequently nerve-wracking film. I'm opting to get the UK Second Run blu which will contain the same restoration and short film as the Criterion, but adds a feature length commentary and a substantial complementary booklet essay by Michael Brooke, who specializes in Czech cinema study.

Network goes a lot more over-the-top with the satire, AFitC is much more down-to-earth. Off the top of my head two films that have a lot of similarities are All the King's Men (1949) and Broadcast News (1987) (although William Hurt's character is just about the 180 degree opposite of Andy Griffith's, the film could almost be a remake with a dolop of Being There thrown in ) I think AFitC is just as good or better than Network (my only complaint is that I think AFithC is about 15 minutes too long). Andy Griffith is on fire in every scene!

I'm optimistic here. For Down by Law, Jarmusch was shown a master and he requested a new scan. I think he would've requested new scans if they were needed. Just a thought.

Meh announcements, so far their 2019 continues to disappoint. Detour and Notorious were lovely surprises and I'm looking forward to Klute and The Heiress, but that's pretty much it. I'm glad for the people that enjoy these though.

Is this another "I've never seen or heard of it, therefore disappointing" situations? Because I don't see how anyone who's a fan of film would say this list (which isn't even complete) is a disappointing start to the year. Like, what are you expecting??

I'm retracting my post on that comparison because you're right, I can't believe I forgot that. Now that I think about it, the comparison to Network isn't that fair since Beale was already established, good call.

I kinda hoping they would dip into alternate dimensions/timelines and give us alternate versions of movies. Like the never materialized John Wayne/Clint Eastwood team-up, the Russel Crowe as Wolverine and the like.

Criterion will be re-releasing it again, from a newer 4K scan if you weren't aware. It's one of many Wong Kar-wai titles that have been remastered in 4K, and coming from CC.

That's very good news. It's not necessarily a surprise, but I don't think I was aware of it as a fact.
