that's a relief. I still haven't bought all the DVD only release such as the Eclipse sets or keep up with their current BD releases Thankyou for the information.

Has B&N stopped discounting new release Criterion titles?

I gave up membership last year, but was in my local store today and was very tempted to pick up Notorious. I know I can get it for about $25 on Amazon and I'm happy to wait for the flash sale - but would have purchased in-store today had it been on sale. I seem to remember all new titles being discounted by 30% for a week or so after release.

The last one I remember was Night of the Living Dead.

One of the things I love most about the Criterion Collection is the illumination it provides. Not only does their lovingly curated library offer the best possible releases for so many of the films I already have a great affinity for, but they introduce me to films and artists I might otherwise never have considered. They continually broaden my horizons, and in doing so, I find they make me a better, more empathetic person. I truly believe that film as an artistic medium can narrow the divide between people by allowing the viewer complete immersion in different cultures. Knowledge is a tremendous tool in combating fear and ignorance.
Your talking about John Waters movies, right?

Just checked out the April announcements, and this must be the best month in a long time. Very nice Jarmusch upgrades, and nice looking new spines. Solid.

Apologies if this has ever been discussed before, but do people expect Criterion to re-release some of their Melville titles that are now OOP? Namely Le Cercle Rouge and Army of Shadows?

It's been rumored that they have a new StudioCanal deal but I don't believe nothing has been set in stone (Though with Janus tweeting an image of "Ran" recently could be a strong indicator). I do know that Kino acquired "Last Year at Marienbad" so it's always possible Kino could have those two.

Kino has and will be releasing the 4K restoration of Le Doulos by Studiocanal, so I wouldn't be surprised if they have more Melville on the way.

Army of Shadows and Le Cercle Rouge would be instant purchases for me, but they may focus on the films that have new restorations.

Forgive me if it's been discussed anytime recently, but does anyone know if Criterion has ever considered or sought the release the harrowing and very dark 1977 drama/thriller LOOKING FOR MR. GOODBAR?

I'm told there are music rights issues associated with it, but it seems such a natural for Criterion, and I know they've done at least some Paramount titles.

Looking forward to getting the Police Story films. Hopefully they release more HK action films in the future.

I had to order Eraserhead on Blu-Ray from Criterion's website because Amazon has not put it back in stock. At least Repo Man should be back in stock soon on Amazon.

So I just got done watching Scenes From A Marriage from the Bergman set. I ended up watching three acts one day then watched the final 3 acts after a two day break. I must admit I was a little apprehensive at first given the long film time but that fear was overblown and I must say I loved it. Have to say I'm looking forward to watching Saraband next.

I seem to remember that Kino said they had a few more Melville films or didn't deny it at least. Though whether that means Le Cercle Rouge is uncertain. Hopefully, 2019, will be the year Le Deuxième Souffle will be released by Criterion since that isn't Studiocanal.

I remember the Kino Insider saying that they had the rights to either 'Fallen Idol' or 'Bob le flambeur' (they wouldn't specify), and that another label having the rights to either film. So it could be possible that Criterion is the other label that they are talking about.

PSA regarding Kanopy:

It was recently brought to my attention that you don't need to be a resident of NYC in order to get a NY Public Library Card, just a resident of the state so if you know somebody here you can get it for free. All they have to do is register their e-mail here and take a picture of their Driver's License or some other form of I.D. and they'll mail you a card. Hope this helps somebody, there's a lot of great stuff on the service including a ton of the Criterion Collection.

The Insider mentioned that two other labels had smaller deals with Studiocanal. I think its safe to say Criterion is one of them. I wonder if Shout! is the other one?

Shout has already started announcing SC titles so they definitely are.
