So, it seems that we'll finally get the My Criterion section in the coming weeks!

Just signed up and loaded Mikey and Nicky on my PC. Pretty neat to be able to stream Criterion movies, but the quality is not so good on my PC monitor, which is meant for gaming. I would like to use the app on my TV so I also fired off an email to the special customer support email address and pretty much begged them to add Xbox One to their list of devices. I already have too many devices in my home and I just can't justify adding another, no matter how small, just for one streaming service.

They seem to be using the VHX platform; not sure if there's an Xbox app for that.

After a quick glance it appears VHX does have an XBox one app. Also Chromecast support... So luckily, I think I'm covered either way.

I'll try it on both tonight and see what the quality looks like. Being in Canada, I didn't have the option to use Filmstruck, so I won't have a basis for comparison.

That's quite a large number of titles available to watch anytime! With the channel, I would feel like I wouldn't need or want to buy the blu-rays anymore! Or perhaps it will be more convenient to access my fave. Criterion movies while traveling or away from my Criterion home film library.

If quality is a concern for you, the max bitrate that VHX (the platform they are using) supports is 13,000kbps, which might not be great, especially for movies with heavy film grain. Also, VHX doesn't seem to support 5.1 audio streaming, only for paid drm free downloads, which is rather disappointing: https://help.vhx.tv/article/502-how-...surround-sound I'm definitely gonna give the streaming service a shot though, seems like it could be pretty cool.

Worth it to me for Criterion's complete catalog. I do hope they add captions because that may be a dealbreaker for me.

The streaming service will never replace my desire for physical media, but there are also hundreds of criterion titles I'd like to watch but I just don't have the desire to own. I'd love to be able to use it so long as they make the app available on a device that I connect to my TV.

Yes, it's like when people say "I could care less". Ah, so you do care.

Some people would argue that "I could care less" is just a clipped version of "I could care less, but I don't". Just like how every morning my alarm clock goes off, so I turn it off. I know people love to revel in pedantry, particularly on internet forums, but if we were to sit here and examine the various quirks of English language phrases and idioms, we'd never get around to talking about actual movies.

Using the developer playback hud on the Apple TV version of the VHX app, I'm getting an average bitrate of 5.5Mbps, with a peak bitrate of 6.5Mbps on the 1080p Mikey and Nicky stream. Video is AVC encoded, with mono AAC audio of ~104Kbps. There is quite a bit of macroblocking because of the low bitrate, and how much film grain this movie has.

Until April 8, it's web-only so I assume the Fire stick and other apps will be able to access it only then.

Did Filmstruck have higher bitrates?

I apologize for the misinformation I posted earlier. I can find a number of articles saying VHX was launching an XBox One app from early last year, but digging into it a bit deeper, it doesn't seem like that's an option at this point in time.

Looks like it's Chromecast only for this cat.
