Dune seems a perfect fit for Arrow. I could see them doing something similar to Waterworld: theatrical cut, TV cut and a hybrid of the two with some of the deleted scenes that didn’t make it into either such as Thufir Hawat’s fate.

Going on past form, sometime in the second half of the month. Last year was the 13th; the year before, the 28th.

I can see them doing it if they don't need to get Lynch involved, cause I'm not one hundred percent sure he'll want to get involved.

My Dune dream is Lynch having a change of heart and giving us his original cut. That said, it's just a dream!

His opinon seems to be evolving on Dune. Around when the deleted scenes for Fire Walk with Me premiered he told someone from The Digital Bits he had no interest in recutting Dune. He’s mostly dismissive of it in the recent book Room to Dream but he does mention that he sometimes thinks about what could be done with the footage. That surprised me because I’ve never heard him speak of Dune like that before.

Wasn't the problem as much in editing as filming? Like even if there was a re-edit, Lynch didn't get to film everything he intended?

Maybe but he did present a cut of the film to the crew in Mexico that was almost four hours. So at some point he made a cut of the film he preferred with the footage that was shot. I’m sure like many films time and budget didn’t allow everything to be filmed that was planned. Lynch’s major issue with the film, besides the cuts, was that he compromised right from the beginning, before filming even began.

There’s a 4K OCN scan coming later this year from Koch in Germany - they did a Facebook post (maybe Twitter as well) about it recently. So hopefully that’s a sign a release will come out soon in the States or other countries. I love Dune a lot and I’m glad it’s in Lynch’s filmography, there’s the documentary and featurettes from the DVD (and later Blu) releases and I own the out of print 2 disc Blu-ray which included the TV cut. But it would be nice to have some new interviews/essays or similar for a new release. Shout did of course release Wild at Heart which I think is a Universal license.

Turbine (also Germany) will be releasing a new 4K scan of Crash later this year with a new interview with Peter Suschitzky and the Cronenberg commentary track - which is of interest to Criterion fans not only for being Cronenberg but also an old laserdisc title.

Roma and The Other Side of the Wind would be my dream 2019 Criterion releases - and we’re already off to a great start! There’s also already a bunch of documentaries to go alongside The Other Side of the Wind as well.

Cargo has an Australian Blu-ray release from Umbrella, but do Netflix even have the Australian distribution rights? However most of the Netflix catalogue that has physical releases are series (same situation with Hulu as well) - Narcos, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, The Crown, Black Mirror, Stranger Things, the Marvel series etc.

Amazon are much more lenient with windows of distribution and giving films home media releases, so I’d love in future to see titles like Paterson (which is getting a South Korean release from Plain Archive) in future as well - even if it’s several years as well.

But I want ROMA! I don't care about the others. I want one, and that's it.

Jacques Demy’s Bay Of Angels is a seductive stunner set largely in 1960s Nice and Monaco in the casinos of the French Riviera. Jeanne Moreau is sensational as a woman addicted to gambling as well as living through the highs and lows that come with that addiction. Demy’s style and Michel Legrand’s accompanying score complete the seduction for the viewer that mirrors the seduction felt by the main male protagonist.

Criterion’s blu ray is, a handful of noisy scenes at night aside, an absolute stunner.

Dear fellow members of this distinguished enlightening forum,
As you all know by now that i'm from Egypt.
I've browsed many titles from the criterion collection and I myself own about 200 of them.
My question for all of you here.
Would you be interested if Criterion started releasing Egyptian classic films from the 40's and 50's going on the 90's adding them to their catalogue ?
Thank you.

Honestly, I can only imagine it happen as part of a "World Cinema" box set. Apart from Youssef Chahine I don't think Egyptian films have much traction in North America, even among cinephiles.

Short answer, yes. There are so many films out in the world, that whether through physical media, or streaming, would be a great asset to knowledge of international culture.

If Jodorowsky did a commentary on the film, it'd be a Day One purchase from me.

The documentary is fascinating but if that movie had ever been made it would have sent the source material purists into an even bigger rage than the Lynch movie ever did. Personally I love the book; the Lynch movie and would have loved to seen Jodorowsky's version get made.

A new essay about Bad Timing. Maybe a hint at an upgrade? I've been holding off on importing the UK Blu.
