No, its been at the end of the month for a while now.

I can't speak to always, but for the past few years at least, it has been consistent.

Janus has the rights to 3 Jia Zhangke movies (Unknown Pleasures, Platform, and The World)!

EDIT: Sorry, they actually have the rights for 4 films (Xiao Wu)

I am totally in for Platform, Xiao Wu (Pickpocket,) and Unknown Pleasures becoming part of the Criterion blu-ray collection. I am region-free and currently own Eureka's The World.

Even Kino Lorber is jumping on the UHD bandwagon. Come on Criterion.

I'm all for it. I'd like to think they're doing the math on how profitable it could be for them.

I think certain older movies look terrific scanned in 4k or 2k and presented in 1080p with not much room for improvement in UHD. Looking at my shelf, I wonder how dazzling films like In the Mood for Love or Days of Heaven would look in UHD. I'm not sure if the format would make a big difference for two of my all-time favorites (The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus) but I'd like to see them try.

that's one of the more awful depalma movies. I dont think they've ever released it. I can't imagine them thinking it would be worth it now.

but who knows. dressed to kill and blow out I think were only released on blu and the dvd releases had been mgm.

They haven't even upgraded all the DVDs they want to do yet and it has been a decade since moving to blu-ray.

I really don't envision them pulling resources from other places to devote to UHD right now.

Chunking Expreeeeessss!! Having a weekly movie as a preamble for their streaming service is great. Kinda feels like tv, like people are watching when you’re watching. Excited for April, but it’s already great.

Thanks for sharing.

Yeah that was me who asked! Wasn’t expecting him to confirm but it’s awesome that he did. Looking forward to it!

I haven't kept up with Criterion because they're typically really expensive in Canada but there's currently a sale on them on amazon.ca if there are any other Canadians around here! Couldn't pass on the Great Dictator for $23.99 I'll do some digging through the other deals later.

Glad Bamboozled is confirmed. Also happy we can squash the possibility of that NYD clue being for Citizen Kane

People won’t squash it. They’ll still argue it’s Citizen Kane.

You wouldn't welcome a Citizen Kane release by Criterion? I'd love to see that.

Why? WB's stacked release going OOP or something?

Yeah, I don't see the point of CC releasing Citizen Kane with Warner's release being loaded with extras, and an excellent 4K-restored transfer. Criterion could perhaps do a UHD release of it to justify it, but otherwise it'd be pointless.
