Really hoping for a Japanese title soon. Oh, and Bamboozled. Hope the wait for that one isn't too long.

I don’t believe Disney has ever licensed their films. I could be wrong, though.

Michael Bay(Armageddon, The Rock) and Wes Anderson(Rushmore/Royal Tenenbaums/Life Aquatic) have been licensed from the Touchstone subsidy.

Wasn't it supposed to be released as part of some Mel Brooks box set?

Then there is no excuse! We need all the remaining Lynch films with remasters.

Just wanna give a heads up that Target is doing a buy 2 get 1 free sale on movies right now. A lot of Criterion titles are priced around $26 so you can get three titles for about $52 before tax. Even with tax, it will still be cheaper than a potential Criterion flash sale. Also, free shipping on orders $35 and above.

Received Berlin Alexanderplatz and la vérité today.

I definitely plan on watching the Clouzot film tonight -- a first viewing.

EDIT: Poor French spelling. I should know better, and I apologize to all of France.

Would appreciate your feedback on La Verite, I love Clouzot.

Kinda glad the flash sale wasn't today, I need to pool some money. My plan is the Hitchcock set (should've bought this at Costco when it was there), In the Heat of the Night, Ugetsu, maybe Sisters, etc..I wish Detour was coming out sooner, but my new poster of it is fantastic in the meantime.

From what one infers, the Criterion UK operation is a different entity, where they have some kind of outsourcing arrangement with Sony to manufacture and distribute their titles. God knows if they even discuss these things.

Criterion is weird that way. When they first released blu-rays, they said DVD's and blu's would be priced the same because they didn't want the format to be a factor in decision making. Then they made DVD's cheaper than blu's because "screw what we said before". When they first released dual-formats citing simplicity of SKU, they put them out in oversized artwork heavy digipacks which pleased som "space no object" collectors, but were a lot-less amenable to volume based cost-cutting than standard plastic cases. This led to DVD customers complaining about how they were having to pay more, and so they hurriedly pulled out of dual format which most other boutique labels had been successfully handling by just having an additional disc hub or tray.

Yeah... *sigh*

I remember all those decisions (and re-decisions), and that history makes me sadly confident that Criterion won't do what appears to me the most obvious best way forward which is to just include a standard Blu-ray disc and an UHD disc together in a single-SKU release using their existing Blu-ray pricing model. Perhaps there are factors I'm not aware of, but I'm more of the belief that other reasons (ones I would disagree with) may be keeping this approach from their plans.

They did dual release but the overwhelming negative reactions led to them abandoning that.

As a customer utterly satisfied with those dual releases, I would have voiced my contentment had I ever the slightest idea that anyone else might have cause to complain about them. I just happily bought them... until they stopped making them.

I liked them too! I wish they started when they first started Blu-Ray, because I was a late adopter and had to rebuy a ton of titles!

I loved the dual releases because I had no problem loaning the DVD out to friends, or being able to take it to work to listen to the special features during the slow season. But then again I'm in the minority as I loved the digi packaging. It just made the releases seem more special in my mind (and thus worth the steep price tag).

If you're even half right on those predictions I would be a very happy camper...

Hell, just AFTER HOURS alone would pretty much make my year
