Isn’t the story that Lynch is super hands on with the releases? He probably approved the cover.

I do like the intro curtains, but it was a real missed opportunity not to use the original poster art. Maybe it'll be a digipack with the poster art inside? That'd be pretty cool.

Wasn't there a hint in their 2018 drawing a little over a year ago? Could be wrong, but I remember people talking about it.

I think the Blue Velvet cover is perfect and literally appropriate.

Agreed. I don't know why but I think it is beautiful.....

And I second a Peter Bogdonavich set. That would be amazing. It's kind of sad that physical media is in such a state now that great films that need a release because they are missing are no longer the priority. Licensing a big name film that the masses will double dip on so they can get the money to possibly release some of those other films is the priority now....

So I am going to do my part and triple dip on this for the extras so they can release Elephant Man, Paper Moon, Oliver Twist, Freaks and all the others that need the Criterion treatment....

Will Let the Sunshine In be the only Criterion release to score under a 2.5/5 for the Movie from Dr. Svet?

I hope that won't dissuade anyone from watching yet another unconventional and beguiling film by Claire Denis.

Considering the current disc is like $5 and has most of the same extras, I don't see it selling as well as something like Lost Highway or Elephant Man would, since they aren't on disc in the US. Or even The Straight Story.

And considering it took Universal 11 years to even put Lost Highway on DVD (after October Films folded into several other companies and all those rights had to be sorted through), it's pretty clear its not a title Universal cares about and would assuringly license out fairly easily.

I just hope the movie itself doesn't turn people away from checking out her better works.

(Still buying it to do my part in keeping the Denis/CC going. Trouble Every Day, Rhums, The Intruder, Beau Travail & Chocolat need Blurays)

As I said in the movie's thread, The Heiress is far from Clift's best performance, but it might objectively be the best movie he did. It's fascinating watching it knowing that nobody saw eye-to-eye on set, and yet it came together as well as it did.

We need more Clift in the collection; A Place in the Sun is out there just screaming for a Criterion release. F'n Paramount.

As for de Havilland, The Snake Pit (Oscar nominee) is getting dual releases from TT and Indicator. Must-see viewing for fans of her work.

She was fantastic in The Adventures of Robin Hood, which I only own on HD DVD. I don't know if this is true, but it has been said that the HD DVD version is better than the Blu-Ray.

Come on! We still need The Circus, The Chaplin revues, etc. We're not talking about a small indie filmmaker here, we're talking about the most iconic movie star of all time!
Same with Kurosawa. There are so many of them, yet we get one every what? 2 or 3 years? I know, I know, quality over quantity, and they release a lot of other titles. I'm just so tired of waiting. :|
Every time there's a new criterion announcement I come rushing to see if either filmmakers are about to get their due, only to be disappointed again and again. Same with Harold Lloyd. Sure, we're getting the Kid Brother, but how many years did that take?
Sorry, end rant. :P
I hear you. They release so much garbage it's pretty crazy. You can tell by the majority of posters here what they like LOL! Iget it some people here would die for David Lynch's symbolism of bugs/insects to criminals of the underworld GASP OMG, but I'm like facepalm! That's about the most boring idea I've ever heard filmed! Good just release it Criterion get it out of your system, k thx bye. Lovve makes the world go around hey hey hahaha ha ha...wow ok...yuck. I can't tell if this is copypasta or an unintentionally hilarious statement. Either way, thank you.

Criterion is behind on some stuff, but I think after the massive success of the Bergman set, I think we're going to see a lot more filmmakers get the same treatment.

However, this is one reason why I think Filmstruck was so important. Even if they have been slow on Chaplin and Lloyd, you could see every single unreleased film online. It doesn't replace physical releases, but having that sort of access really meant a lot.

The May announcements are MAYsmerizing.

I will have to double dip for Blue Velvet and House of Games (the latter has been on my wishlist for years for a blu-ray upgrade, so now I can cross that one off my list).

I wonder if House of Games means Criterion has access to other Mamet films - it would make my year if they released The Winslow Boy.
