Well, now these lines of dialogue just make it appear as if our newest member is of some kind of foreign decscent who doesn't quite have a grasp on the written English language, yet.

Hmmmm?

I've kind of avoided posting in this thread because a) I like to read a whole thread before commenting... but this one is too long. and b) it does seem a little bit like a niche community that might view outsiders with some sense of suspicion. Still, no time like a B&N sale to pull me out of the woodwork.

I've hit up the sale yesterday to score House, Seven Samurai, and Paths of Glory. By the time I'd gotten there they'd already sold out of The Magician, or else I'd have gotten that one, too. On a quick count I have right around 30 Criterion blus--which is sadly but a small dent in their blu release catalog.

Some of my favorites up to this point are Wages of Fear, The Third Man, Stagecoach, Repulsion, Mystery Train, Last Year at Marienbad, Sanjuro, and House. Any recommendations on some titles I should be putting high on my "to-get" list the next time I go back?

What are some good ones because I don't not have any to speak of at the time.

Maybe I could tell you what I like so you can help me please?

I like the rock and armageddon and i have the on criterion DVD. i also have if.. and over lord.

I really like movies with lots of action. doe criterion have ones like these?

Thanks guys. I thank you in advance.
Ahhhh...Malcolm McDowell and Lindsay Anderson...this is OT, but if you haven't seen it, check out another Anderson/McDowell film called "O' Lucky Man". Wonderful and bizarre...

I've not seen "If", but I'll bet it's an unusual film as well.

You might like "The Man Who Fell To Earth" (David Bowie/Nicholas Roeg)...if you can find a copy (recently went OOP). Or quirky films like Wes Anderson's "Bottle Rocket" and "The Darjeeling Limited". Great films for the dysfunctional child in all of us.

If you're into art and dysfunction, then "Crumb" is a great little documentary about the 60's "underground comix" artist. If you think your family is f***ed up, just check out this group.

But it seems that you mentioned a "war based" film, so there are a few options there. Kubrick's "Paths Of Glory" is a personal favorite and a great war/anti-war film. They don't get much better than that. Malick's "The Thin Red Line is another GREAT film about war and is a visual delight. For a taste of Japan and more Bowie, there's always "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence".

"House" is a truly bizarre Japanese horror/campy/etc. film that I have yet to see, but the trailers are pretty strange...worth a look at least.

Well...I could go on and on...but my tastes could be completely dipolar from yours.

If you have NetFlix (as I have), then I would highly suggest finding a few titles that look interesting and rent them. Go for slightly older titles, as those are more likely to have little or no wait time.

Jim Jarmusch's "Mystery Train" is another wonderfully quirky film that is driven by strange characters and great dialogue.

MY TWO CENTS...WHETHER THIS IS BOGUS OR NOT!

The actors are amazing in it, the camerawork is spectacular (as is the case with every of Stanley Kubrick's movies) and this BD makes it shine like it should. I'm happy MGM licensed these to Criterion, otherwise we probably would never have seen it on Blu.
Absolute agreement...this is a great film that I discovered later in my appreciation of Kubrick.

Much like Masters of Cinema's "Make Way For Tomorrow", this was a "real film experience" and even on a 50" plasma, I felt like I was watching this being projected in a small theater.

For one, H-E-double hockey sticks is only to scare people who believe in what other humans thought up.

For 2, Criterion is not for you! HIGH-FIVE!

A Man Escaped Blu-ray
Gaumont also just released Les Yeux Sans Visage AKA Eyes Without a Face, which is one of my favorites.

It's okay. We all knew who lead the "rep" votes when we had those.
