Thanks! I initially had Royal Tenenbaums and that title too, but sometimes we have to make sacrifices!

My first pass was around 25, which was better than I expected. But making those last few cuts was so painful. Glad this is only a virtual exercise!

The Cloud-Capped Star is the most logical guess, especially since Criterion has expressed their interest in releasing more Indian cinema.

Reminds me of that Simpsons Valentine's day episode where everyone interprets the star differently.

lol at only having 20 criterions.

I could think of 20 criterion movies that were put out on dvd and I wish would come out on blu. I once bought 12 criterions during one barnes and noble sale. I could probably think of 20 that I wish I could buy right now, especially considering the slate they have of titles just from this year.

and that's just the stuff I know I want. that's not even the stuff I'm curious about or haven't discovered yet.

edit: I should have rephrased that first sentence. lol at if you have a large collections of criterions and wanted to give some away so that you could at you only had twenty. and not including box sets? that zatoichi boxset is probably the best release ever on home video. there is no boxset I've ever enjoyed more.

The first few weren't much of an issue, since they were entrenched in my all time top twenty. After that, however, we had some serious Sophie's Choice moments...

1) High and Low
2) Wages of Fear
3) Tokyo Story
4) Kiss Me Deadly
5) Stalker
6) The Naked Kiss
7) The Philadelphia Story
8) The Virgin Spring
9) Last Year at Marienbad
10) Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence
11) Au Hasard Balthazar
12) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
13) Black Narcissus
14) Lady Snowblood
15) Weekend (1967)
16) Tokyo Drifter
17) Umberto D
18) 8 1/2
19) In the Mood for Love
20) City Lights

I posted this in the Notorious thread also: For those of you that care about sales numbers, this is crazy. I can't say I've ever seen a Criterion release on the weekly top-sellers list but here it is: https://www.the-numbers.com/home-mar...art/2019/01/20

16th in sales for the week, nearly $328,000

I don't even have 20 titles. This is all I have:
  1. A Hard Day's Night (1964)
  2. Breathless (À bout de souffle) (1960)
  3. Dressed to Kill (Second Printing) (1980)
  4. Eraserhead (1977)
  5. Foreign Correspondent (1940)
  6. Godzilla (ゴジラ / Gojira) (1954)
  7. M (M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder) (1931)
  8. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
  9. The 39 Steps (1935)
  10. The Freshman (1925)
  11. The Lady Vanishes (1938)
  12. The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
  13. Things to Come (1936)

As for minimalism, I'm with you. I've been giving away stuff for the past two years. Before our last move, we had 3 bookcases plus another 10 boxes of books. Gave most of them to our library. Recently, my wife and I just emptied our closets and gave away half our clothes. Tackling all our various piles of paper is next.

Anyway, I totally get overwhelmed by stuff. I'm going to pare down my collection some more. I'd be happy with a nice small set of films I can appreciate and display. I started a thread about it here: The Merits of a Small Blu-ray Collection.

I see what Ray did. No Flash sale so no purchase lists. He's filling the void.

Wow, that is actually crazy. 13,000 units! I would have expected to see films like Scream Factory’s The Thing, or even Criterion’s own The Breakfast Club or The Princess Bride releases show up in the top sellers list over something like Notorious. Very interesting.

Hitchcock is usually going to be a good sell and not to mention the MGM Blu has been out of print for years.

This is shocking. I was never expecting movies to be added to the Criterion Channel day and date with its physical release. This is awesome news for subscribers if it's going to be a regular occurrence.
