It would appear that Criterion's "My Collection" is up and running again!

Yup, my sentiments, exactly.

I'm not going to even try it. It's frustrating enough whittling down my massive want list for the upcoming sale. I'm supposed to sift through my carefully curated collection, and dump all but twenty? Why not just ask me to choose a limb, and lop it off?

Truthfully, if I looked at all the Criterions I have, individual releases and box sets, and knowing there are so many I have yet to watch (the majority of which I've never seen before), I don't know how I could find a balance between movies I want to keep, and love, and ones that most interest me. If anything, I'll be growing my collection again, not downsizing it. In the next 3-4 months, I'm going to be ramping up my buying again, as several distributors (Criterion, Warner Archive, Kino and Twilight Time, Eureka in the UK) have started releasing some long desired films, and since my parents were kind enough to get me this gorgeous book case unit, which will store every blu-ray I have now with room to spare, storage and organization will no longer be an issue. They also gave me $100 in gift certificates to Best Buy and Barnes & Noble, which I'll use to get all the Best Picture nominees.

You guys might not see me for a while.

16th in sales for the week, nearly $328,000
That's fantastic! I'll probably be buying Notorious when the sale drops. I have the out of print MGM disc, but it's one of my favorite Hitchcock films, as well as one of my favorite films of all-time, period, so I want the best release possible. It's one of several blu-rays I already own that I'll be replacing with the Criterion issue over the next few sales. I'll hold on to the old releases until I get several, and then go over to my local library to donate them.

When I see a figure like this, I'm so happy, as I know it enables Criterion to go after something we really want, a film that hasn't had a blu-ray release, perhaps one that might need some real restorative work. Newer films like The Breakfast Club I don't need to upgrade immediately, but something like Notorious, Rebecca, Barry Lyndon or Lolita (if Criterion gets that) make for no brainers.

Yes, it is, and it looks really good. Just in time to add the movies I'll soon be buying.

Glad to see it back up, but the "Sort" function seems to have forgotten the date order in which I added titles (my preferred method of keeping track), and has them all over the place. A very minor issue, but a bit of a disappointment all the same.

The great sales for Notorious even if its Hitchcock gives me great pleasure as it shows physical media is still far from dead.

Also, I don't think I could have a minimalist collection as I love having the ability to grab a certain film and be able to watch it any time I want. I think of it I have my own movie store which I can watch whatever I want and at any time. Plus between Criterion, Kino, Eureka, Arrow, Warner Archive Collection, TT, and many other great labels there is not a better time IMO to be a movie fan. I mean I won't begrudge anyone who wants to have a minimalist collection but its not for me.

The funny thing is, after seeing all the 3,000 plus collections on here, I thought I already had a minimalist collection.....

Thanks for the heads up. After updating I went from 244 to 272. The interface is clunky, because from what I can tell you can't add to your collection from your collection page anymore. You have to navigate to each page and then add them one by one. It's a pain.

It can be the most cost effective/efficient way of watching movies too. (Unless it's that Godard-Gorin set you regret spending $50 on )

For example, I felt like revisiting Soderbergh's Solaris today, so I simply grabbed the German Blu-ray* I bought for $6.60 off the shelf. If I was to legally stream it, the cheapest HD rental option is $3.99.

$3.99*(n>1) adds up. Or worse yet, not watching it because it's not on Netflix.

*It seemed to be a DVD era scan, so the quality was acceptable at best. Hm. So, you know, maybe Criterion can give it the scan it deserves)

It's definitely not ready for prime time. I can't even add to My Collection right from the blu ray's homepage.

It does make one wonder exactly what "development" work went on during the ten-month downtime.

Also I thought they were going to add their LaserDisc titles to have a more complete collection of sorts. And a minor compliant is that they do not show the White Mane/Red Balloon release but they never seemed to show that as I have that DVD with the 2 movies and Paddle To The Sea on its own DVD so they kept the 3 movie set in my collection but other than that I like it being back

EDIT I just realize I can't access the wishlist without logging in and also Why the hell is my gmail shown?

Can't add most OOP editions to the My Collection section. Bummer.

I still hope that Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly can get the Criterion treatment because they have released other movies from Richard Linklater before.
