For anyone that missed it this round, Amazon is streaming it now. I just watched it for the first time, not a flawless movie but still way too relevant today. I always put it off because of the TV show but other than the character names and location they really don't have anything to do with each other.

Thank gawd I got a weighty tax return this year. Also, this was my first Criterion direct sale.

Shame that In the Heat of the Night is unavailable, that's probably my top want right now. Seeing as I'm only 49 points away from a $50 gift card, I might have to put in another order if it comes up again (maybe with that Dietrich and Von Sternberg set).

Right now though, I put my order in for these bad boys:

• Notorious
• Jabberwocky
• Odd Man Out
• La Vérité

Seen Notorious a couple of times before but I never felt fully invested in it. I plan on giving it an attentive viewing to see if it sinks in. I gotsta own it anyway since I have so many other Hitchcocks.

The others are blind-buys. Not sure if Jabberwocky is a wise one or not, but I figure the other two would be up my alley.

I'd go in for it, but I was getting Criterion for around $15 at Christmas thru various deals. I'm also fairly caught up (sans 2019 titles) so I'll sit this one out. I'm seeing some nice orders from people here and on FB so Criterion should do quite well today.

I've only seen Jabberwocky once, a long time ago. I seem to remember it being typical Gilliam fantasy/humour.

Odd Man Out is excellent. Carol Reed is one of my favourite directors, and James Mason probably my second-favourite actor - and both deliver here. It's very strong on atmosphere, with great cinematography by Robert Krasker, who also shot The Third Man. (If you are region-free, I'd recommend the SC release of Reed's The Man Between, a Cold War thriller set in Berlin and also starring Mason, which makes a great double-bill with The Third Man).

I was planning to get La vérité today as a blind-buy but went with another title that's been in my wish list for ages. Definitely next sale.

Question: Was 12 Angry Men ever available in the flash sale? It's always sold out by the time I check. It's been this way the past 2-3 sales.

That is weird. Not sure what's going on with that as it doesn't seem like a title that would sell out terribly fast, but I could be wrong.

Every in-stock title is eligible. I think I'm right in saying Criterion never releases sales figures, so perhaps it is just perennially popular, and therefore quick to sell out every sale.

My first Criterion flash sale - made sure to limit myself to 3. Been grabbing some recently for good prices off eBay so didn’t need to overdo it today.

Went with: Notorious, Nashville and Le SAmourai. All blind buys. I don’t see Le Samourai on too many hauls today, but I’m guessing most collectors already have it.

Yeah, I know it would be eligible if it was in-stock. What I meant was, was it ever in-stock or was it sold out before the sale started?

Seems like the kind of movie you'd think everyone would have by now, but I guess not. (I still don't have it, so maybe I shouldn't be so presumptuous.)

Hope you enjoy it. The bargain alone makes it worth picking up. Although if I'm being perfectly honest there's only a handful of Bergman films I like enough to want to own, so it's tough to drop that much cash on it for me.

Le Samourai is easily one of my favorite among French crime films. It's probably made its way into many folks' collections, but it's not exactly 12 Angry Men popular. Hope you enjoy it!
