That's good news. Looking forward to it being part of the next WCP boxset.

If Criterion put those films out, they'd be two of the best films Criterion's released in a long while.

Meanwhile, a film like Aimless Bullet, which I think is as important and essential a classic of world cinema as any of Criterion's flagship titles, I think could use the exposure that a Criterion release would bring. But for me, yeah, it would be a redundant release, especially since the KOFA version already feels Criterion-level (with an English-friendly booklet and everything). So I'd prefer anything that doesn't already have an English-friendly release. Which is not nothing. (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring anyone?)
I figured that's the reason why you didn't count The Housemaid but I thought I would mention it anyways just in case. I would also welcome Criterion releases of Peppermint Candy and Oasis. I missed out on the Peppermint Candy Blu-ray as I wasn't aware of the film until the blu-ray was already OOP. That's awesome you were able to find a copy in Seoul.

Yeah, I agree a Criterion release of Aimless Bullet would be great for those people that are not aware of the film and don't import, but honestly, like you I would rather see Criterion use its resources to release Korean films that haven't made it to Blu-ray yet or that need English friendly Blu-ray releases.

Here are some titles I would love to see (with better remasters):

Annie Hall (1977)
Bringing Up Baby (1938)
Chinatown (1974)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
The Last Picture Show (1971) (a standalone version)
I've been hoping for a standalone release of The Last Picture Show for a few years now.

I didn't realize Peppermint Candy was on blu-ray. Every so often I'll search Prime Video hoping they add more Lee Chang-dong movies in HD. Peppermint Candy was included with Prime last time I checked but only in SD.

I'd welcome anything and everything from Lee Chang-dong and Kore-eda on blu-ray!

There's a standalone Sony Blu, region free, that's been available in Germany and Spain (and UK if you can get a Premium Collection edition) for a few years now that's on par, PQ-wise, with the Criterion and has most of the essential Criterion extras.

Does the Bergman boxset have the same extras as the individual releases? I really want to get it, but it would really irritate me if it gets released later with more extras.

The Breakfast Club had a 30th Anniversary edition released before the Criterion too so one does not preclude the other.

That said, I would be surprised to see Sixteen Candles get a Criterion release right now due to the date rape stuff. After Molly Ringwald talked about it not too long ago, it restarted the criticism around the film for that element of it. I doubt Criterion will want to wade into that, especially when they have so many other films they can release instead. The fact the clue came out a few years ago for Sixteen Candles and still nothing has happened is probably an indicator a Criterion release has been scrapped.

Do you think Criterion would ever get Fallen Angels?

Cool, Sofia and Rocco visited today!

One and my favorite directors working at present. And Sofia's not bad, either.

Hou played the lead in Taipei Story, so he is technically in the collection already.

I love the appearance of Statler and Waldorf!

Also give me Lost in Translation and a new release of Marie Antoinette!

I love what Altman says near the end of the commentary track concerning films that are experimental in nature (there may be a little paraphrasing here): "I like when people come out of the theater and say, I don't know what that was but I liked it."
