The Magician would be my suggestion. I never really liked The Thin Red Line, but if you want astounding PQ and AQ, that's probably your best bet.

My B&N order says Anti-Christ and Bottle Rocket will ship on the 9th and The Thin Red Line on the 22nd.

Weird... since it kept saying that orders will ship together if i want the free shipping. Yet its breaking it up? I cant complain!

I just shot Raylene recently... she's a nice gal. Funny that she's a topic on the Criterion forum LOL

Or, her more (in)famous role.

I had zero idea these were the same woman when I first heard of the latter film.

You should ask her if she has any Criterion movies, and if so, what her favorite one is...

It's a solid drama, funny at times and the action is extremely well done.

To me it's a lot like Casablanca - it's a movie everybody should see but it's also very enjoyable.

Thanks guys...I appreciate the suggestions.

I think I've become more of an Ozu fan and I plan to pick up Tokyo Story after the barrage of Nov. releases and this sale...but I feel that certain directors/films are important to have in collections and everyone seems to go back to Kurosawa and Seven Samurai.

This is really turning out to be a real "silents" month for me. Will probably get the von Sternberg silents DVD set, plus Chaplin, Keaton, and Metropolis. The first two will be CC BDs and the latter from MoC.

Hey greek...I gotta ask...your avatar looks to be either a profile of Kubrick, Vangelis, or a bearded Irish monk...am I close?

I'm looking to only spend around $100 on B&N. Here is my shortlist of Criterion BDs:

The 400 Blows
Black Orpheus
Breathless
Days Of Heaven
Pierrot Le Fou
Chungking Express
Last Year At Marienbad
House
Yojimbo/Sanjuro box

Any suggestions?

I want to order a replacement case for my Paper/Digibook Bottle Rocket. I'm assuming the replacement case is the clear white case they release them in now, correct? Do they send you the artwork insert along with the case?

I've never seen The Magician but if you liked Badlands you can't go wrong with either of the Malick flicks. Forced to chose one I would take Days of Heaven.

I'm almost certain I've seen that image used for Kubrick. It looks just like him circa The Shining.

Yes, you are correct about the clear, plastic case. You will receive the case and the cover art. You will need to keep your booklet from the digibook.

I'm defiantly picking up Yojimbo/Sanjuro. That seems like the best deal.

Yesterday at B&N I picked up:

"Seven Samurai"
"The Thin Red Line"
"Days of Heaven"
"Paths of Glory"
&
"Young Mr. Lincoln" on DVD.

Before the sale is over, I'll probably also buy:

"Black Orpheus"
"Stagecoach"
"Kagemusha"
"Modern Times"
"The 400 Blows"
"8 1/2"
"Last Year At Mareinbad"
"M"
& maybe
"The Complete Monterey Pop Festival".

I started to watch House last night, but it was really late and i was exhausted from driving an hour to and from the nearest B&N with a few friends. I stopped it right when they got to the actual house, so I feel like that was about as good as any to stop the movie and be able to being watching it tonight or tomorrow. Very interesting so far. My only complaint is the kept wanting the slightly overpowering music to stop and it WOULD NOT AT ALL. Definitely a fun and weird little flick so far otherwise.

Kung Fu is my favorite.

Man, oh man, you must be way out somewhere if the closest Barnes and Noble is an hour away, haha. I swear in the two parts of Ohio I've lived there is one every other block.

Glad you're having fun with Hausu. One of my favorites this year. You're in for a treat for the rest of it.

Looks like they don't have Pierrot le Fou on blu-ray in stock. Yojimbo/Sanjuro is a definite for the price. How is The 400 Blows?

I noticed some off coloring on my copy of The Thin Red Line. When the soldiers first get on the beach their faces start fading a brownish color which makes it look like they have huge birthmarks. Anyone else experiencing this?
